Ukraine Map Of Military Positions

BBC:
Russia is now in full control of significant parts of Ukraine's territory. Troops are spreading out in parts of the north, east and south, with missile strikes and artillery clearing the way for advancing Russian forces.

As you can see, they control staging areas next to major cities, and I assume will then follow the artillery batteries in (and this was yesterday).

Too bad the Ukrainian military wouldnt destroy that bridge across the Kerch Strait.

That would hit Putin hard.

After he installs a puppet government, they'll likely pull back across the Dnieper, so no access for insurgents.

They suggest 50,000 troops for a population of 2 million, one soldier for every 40 inhabitants. Ukraine has 40 million people so that would mean an occupying force of 1 million Russian troops.

A recent Rand Corp. study by military analyst James Quinlivan concluded that the bare minimum ratio to provide security for the inhabitants of an occupied territory, let alone deal with an active insurgency, is one to 50.

That would mean 800,000 Russian troops minimum.

Would Ukrainians tolerate? No government hand-picked by Moscow will survive. And who would serve in the security forces of such a government?

Ukraine with a high degree of self-rule for the regions that would want it.
