American policy makers, including some senators like Republican Roger Wicker of Mississippi are calling for the full Navalny 35 list of Vladimir Putin cronies to be officially sanctioned by the US.
Thats a list of the top individual alleged key enablers of Putins kleptocracy, compiled by Russian opposition leader Alexi Navalny, who survived a near-fatal nerve agent poisoning by Putin thugs after he exposed the extent of the dictators corruption and money laundering including the construction of a billion dollar presidential palace and who is still speaking out even from prison during a kangaroo court hearing.
After Russias invasion of Ukraine, the US has now sanctioned Putin and some of his cronies but not all. And the UK, Canada and more than 15 other countries have already agreed to ban Russian private planes from flying over democratic skies. Still, many prominent oligarchs have not been touched and are still enjoying their private planes and megayachts although that could change.
Sanctions dont just hurt oligarchs pocketbooks. The travel bans also hurt their worldwide standing.
The oligarchs are deeply concerned about travel bans because they undermine their reputations and philanthropy, which they use to bolster their public image, said Louise Shelley, director of the Terrorism, Transnational Crime and Corruption Center at George Mason University.

(54,437 posts)They only published the ones they knew about. There are are almost certainly a few super-select properties owned by people like this, but under cover names that obscure the real identities of the owners. If I were one of them, that's how I would have done it, anyway.

(54,437 posts)A friend in London always goes on about how unaffordable it is to buy housing in his city due to so much of it having been bought up by waves of rich foreigners. First, it was the oil Arabs in the 1970s. The "invaders" have increased in number and nationalities over the decades. Russian and Chinese billionaires have been buying up choice locations in London and New York for decades, now. I doubt that all of those properties are in the names of the true owners. The guy from my office in Geneva, Switzerland, is lucky to have inherited his house from his father. Otherwise, he would have had to move to an apartment out in the suburbs. He said that practically the whole strip of lakeside residences are now in Russian hands. These people just show up, ask "how much, price no object," and settle right in. Owner is listed as either uncle Igor in Novosibirsk or the Balalaika Brothers Import-Export Company of Great Neck, NY.

(297,655 posts)I was thinking they're RW but they're Not fans of Vlad the Invader taking over Ukraine and whatever else he see fit.
I seem to remember other stories from them, more recently, that were reality based.. and they were posted here or I wouldn't have seen them.
I can bet that Vlad's ASSet isn't pleased with this story from the NYPost.

See, many, many years ago before ? mid '70s, ? early '80s...
The NYP was a liberal 💖 paper, with great columists!
Then came The Dark Times...
When The Emperor .. .
(oh, sorry wrong story)
When Rupert Murdoch bought it. 😭

Maybe after trump has shown himself to be the Failed Coup Fuck UP... and every other Shit thing he's done.. the NYP isn't getting as much readership covering for magats?
New Yorkers are Not buying it.

(14,934 posts)of liberal leaning newspapers and kept an eye on them most people would know.
And it was a fairly long time ago.
I don't know what the readership of the NYP is.
I believe Murdoch is rich enough to let the paper bleed.
Screw him.
