Hurricane Sandy Update #2 (3:56 pm)
Information provided during the State Emergency Response Team teleconference at 1:00 pm today is that overnight and today the storm seems to be coming more westward than originally projected.
There is a basic alert for the entire North Carolina coast beginning in eastern Carteret County to the Virginia border. Areas east of Highway 17 should take all appropriate measures as sustained winds of 30 40 miles per hour with gusts up to 60 miles per hour are expected. The projected storm center is 200 miles off shore with affects felt as far inland as east of I-95. There could be 20 30 mile per hour winds and rain totals of 2 5 inches with more possible in some locations.
For the safety of all voters and elections officials the one-stop absentee (Early Voting) voting sites located in Dare County and Ocracoke are closed on Saturday, October 27, 2012.
The one-stop absentee (Early Voting) sites located in Brunswick County will be open as scheduled Saturday, October 27, 2012; the one-stop absentee (Early Voting) site in Pamlico County (Bayboro) will be open Saturday, October 27, 2012, until 4:00 pm. Weather conditions will be closely monitored and if conditions warrant, scheduling changes will be posted on the State Board of Elections website. The one-stop absentee (Early Voting) site in Pamlico County (Bayboro) will be closed on Sunday, October 28, 2012.
