Ukraine offers Russian soldiers money if they surrender

The Minister of Defense of Ukraine is offering money as a peace offering to Russian soldiers. On Facebook and Twitter, Oleksii Reznikov offered 5 million Russian rubles and full amnesty to soldiers if they, “put down their guns and voluntarily surrender to prison.” 5 million rubles is equivalent to about $47,000 USD. Global IT leaders reportedly helped fund the compensation for soldiers.

All soldiers have to do to surrender to Ukraine is say the word “million”, Reznikov said in a Facebook post. He promised Russian soldiers that would be able to speak with their families and start a new life if they surrendered.

Ukrainian leaders estimate that there are between 149,000 and 200,000 Russian troops in the country.

U.S. intelligence believes between 50 to 60% of Russian military forces will not be involved in initial phases of the attack on Ukraine.

Back up the offer with questions and speculations about how the soldiers are going to get paid otherwise. Russian markets are shuttering, the ruble is in free fall, and what's going on back home while you're in Ukraine trying to carry out the insane whim of a butthurt madman?

Now I wonder where the Ukraine is going to get the money to afford to pay the entire Russian Army.

"President Putin! The entire 20th Guards Army surrendered to the Ukrainians!"
"Send the 8th Guards Army, then!"

...two weeks later...

"President Putin! The entire 8th Guards Army surrendered to the Ukrainians!"
"Then send the 2nd Guards Tank Army!"

...two weeks later...

"President Putin!"
(groaning) "Don't tell me: the 2nd Guards Tank Army all surrendered to the Ukrainians."
"Yes sir. What are we going to do?"
"Let me make a phone call."

...thirty seconds later...

"President Zelinsky? This is President Putin. What can we do to keep you from accepting the surrenders of my soldiers?"
"Not sending any more of them would be my first idea."
