Are Manchin and Romney Representative of Each Party's Base?

If not, then why is Romney repeatedly held up as being some sort of spokesperson of the Republican party's position on Russia based on comments he made back in 2016? Right now, Romney's comments with respect to Russia are no different than the comments that Hillary Clinton and most other Democrats have held.

You do not see Manchin being held up as representative of the views of the Democratic party. Instead, Manchin is often highlighted for when he takes positions contrary to the Republican's very extreme base, yet he votes far more consistently with Republicans on virtually every matter than even so-called DINO Manchin.

In fact, according to 538, Romney voted more often with Trump (75%) then he was expected to compared to Manchin (50.4%).

It is just odd all the stories that try to paint Romney as being representative of Republican views on Russia. To the contrary, Romney's vote on impeachment and Russia put him outside of the Republican mainstream.

Manchin is a right of center politician who calls himself a Dem. I think he is really just another white rich dude narcissist, just not full on malignant like the Pig.

"Moderate" Romney voted with Trump far more than "hite rich dude narcissist" Manchin. Finally, on the subject of Russia, Romney is hardly representative of the Republican base.

This is the crazy thing about Republicans. In order to create a false equivalency, the media celebrates when a Republican goes slightly, against the grain of Republican orthodoxy, because it so darn rare when a Republican is not being cravenly opportunistic.
