When I see those long, long lines of Russian military vehicles...

...heading into Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, it strikes me that those convoys look awfully vulnerable to airstrikes.

I don't know shit about military logistics, so can anyone who does comment on this?

Is Putin counting on control of the airspace over those convoys?

Do the convoys have plenty of AAA to protect themselves from airstrikes?

more like chaos, (which of course is war, but 'successful' war must have leaders and trainees, which I don't think exists.)

Guerilla attacks on the convoys would be better.

Use the jets to attack other targets.

Ukraine (and everyone else) sees the traffic jam. Not sure what this tactic is. Is it meant to draw Ukraine forces away from defending Kyiv proper? Edit to add: Or, are they just throwing what they've got at taking Kyiv and this is the best they can do?

airfields up quickly if needed. Only chance seems NATO planes flying from other countries. Of course, in my limited opinion.

Kiev is about 85 miles from the Belarus border. Shit is going down. I don't know if it is targeted drone attacks, bridge demolition, IED/mines or targeted javelin attacks. I don't know what it is, but this column is being bogged down. I hope to keep seeing this same headline for the next 3 days. 17 miles or 40 miles or 3 miles, the column is being bogged down.

Why is it taking the giant Russian convoy so long to get to Kyiv? What am I missing? It’s been heading to Kyiv for two days. The networks keep showing the same footage. Have we not been updated yet?

Someone from Ukraine tweeted that we mistranslated the report - they say convoy is 40 miles from Kyiv (not 40 miles long). It’s only 3 to 4 miles long. Road surrounded by impassable bogs. They can be stopped.

Sorry, I just have a link to the news site.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/2/28/us-announces-plan-to-expel-russian-diplomats-from-un-liveblog

Scroll down past the great maps, etc. until you get to the short article.

You see that picture? The Antonov Airport is that airport that was so contested. It's near Kiev. Look at the line of vehicles. Almost in the center, a little to the right, you can see vehicles pulled off the road, and immediately behind them a long section where it looks like trucks are in a big traffic jam. If you look up ahead, the traffic looks like it is moving without a jam.

I think that they are headed from right to left in the picture. The picture says they are towing artillery trucks.

This is only a picture of part of the convoy. Maxar Technologies says it is 40 miles long. Maxar is a satellite company. They should know their stuff, and I tend to believe the length they have given.

Putin has not established control of the air.

For combat operations, the US logistics priority supporting the combat forces is to resupply Classes 1, 3 & 5 (food, ammo, fuel). It should be the same for other armies.

Hit the logistics hard and one can really degrade any sustained combat operations.

... be wiped out. In "the old days" that would have been an incredible force. Now, it is almost a
suicide march. You can be sure that NATO and the US military has "eyes from the skies" (satellites)
watching it by the minute and that the Ukrainian forces on the ground are being kept up to date.

Tanks which used to be the beasts of the battlefield will become rolling flaming coffins. Some of the
current weapons will hit an armored vehicle and then burn through armor and roast alive anybody
who is inside.

This a javelin anti tank weapon and it can be lunched 2 miles away and it will almost always hit its
target too. This is also the weapon that TFG tried to stop the Ukrainians from getting too.

I don't know if Ukraine still has any fighter/bomber jets left but if they have any around Kyiv that
can be on top of the Russians in no time.

The convoy is surely protected with an AA umbrella. Then again, it was conceivable a couple weeks ago, that Russia could not quickly roll-up the Ukrainian army - so who knows.

I wonder why Ukraine hasn't destroyed the highway in front of the convoy.

there was an uprising among the Russian troops, like 5000 of them, who hadn’t yet crossed the border from Belarus, that they didn’t want to go to war against Ukraine. Maybe there’s a mutiny happening in this convoy, causing the delay….
