Target aiming to entice workers with pay up to $24 per hour

MINNEAPOLIS — Workers at Target stores and distribution centers in places like New York, where competition for finding and hiring staff is the fiercest, could see starting wages as high as $24 an hour this year. It currently pays a universal starting wage of $15 an hour.

The new approach will apply to hourly team members working in Target stores, supply chain facilities and headquarters locations.

The new starting wage range is part of a company plan to spend an additional $300 million on its labor force this year that will also include broader, faster access to health care coverage for its hourly workers. . .

Target also plans to expand access to health care benefits for team members. The new initiative will include:

At least they aren't complaining about not being able to get workers and instead doing the logical thing--respond to market conditions and pay more.

I'm 73 years old, retired since 2016. My retirement income is adequate to support me, but I sometimes think that going back to work for a year or two might make sense. Alas, I love not working. I will also say that I have NEVER had a job that was better than not working, Which is why I'm totally befuddled by those who retired and then went back to work because they were "bored". Really? Get a life. Don't define yourself by your job. Really.

I have always preferred not working to working. I never had a job that was better than not working.

I have no problem keeping myself occupied all day.

My job, or lack of job, however, has never defined me.

Happy you enjoy not working. For me, working part time and volunteering, while not particularly financially life changing, is enriching my life immensely.

People at the bottom are finally getting a chance at a real income. $24 an hour is a living most places. Target offers benefits too, you can have a dignified existence on $24 an hour.

Rhetorical question....

About the only stores we see not raising pay scales are stores like The Dollar Store and other such entities. Why, because they can't jack up prices to cover their losses.

The days of "enticing" workers with motivation circles, bad pizza, anti-union screeds, and unpaid overtime should be just about over, I would think.
