Churches, schools, theaters, etc. need better security.
I know the issue is guns, not church security, but theres no way in hell this country is gonna do anything about guns.
Edited for clarity.

(CNN) A father walked into a church Monday near Sacramento, California, and fatally shot three of his children -- all under 15 -- and someone who appeared to have been supervising the family visit before killing himself, authorities said.
The shooter had a restraining order against him and had to visit his kids with supervision, Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones told reporters. The children's mother was cooperating with authorities, he said.

(25,816 posts)should you lose your rights? I'm no gunner, never owned one. but just an accusation is not
grounds to be deprived of any right.

(1,474 posts)Thats crazy talk. The 2nd Ammendment is an individual right as noted by the SC. Im not okay with just canceling rights on an accusation

(21,247 posts)the issue is about doing proper background checks, about keeping guns out of the hands of people who have restraining orders against him.

(3,394 posts)According to the article "The incident was the 70th mass shooting of 2022 in the United States -- with at least four people injured or killed, not including the shooter -- according to Gun Violence Archive."
It's only two months into 2022 and we already have 70 mass shootings? WTF is wrong with people and our country? Take all these gun nuts to Ukraine and show them what the 2nd Amendment was meant for!

(5,128 posts)So I disagree re churches need to have better security.
I would suggest our laws and enforcement need to do a better job.

(50,911 posts)more security, a church should pay for more security.
This horrible crime was a man who was willing to kill his three children - all of them old enough to know what he was doing, two of whom watched him do it to at least one of their siblings - and their chaperone.
The mother had a restraining order against him, and you KNOW if that is that case she would have preferred her children not have to visit him. And he has a history of domestic abuse.
This crime was aimed at the mother.
IF the churches want to be safer, they should stop being such a fundamental source of toxic masculinity. "Wives, obey your husbands." "I now pronounce you man (word that defines a complete person) and wife (word that defines the woman only in relation to the man)." "The husband is the Lord of the family, the wife is his helpmeet." "Women cannot be priests because they are not in the image of God." And such shit. Anti abortion, now anti contraception, keep the wimmins barefoot and pregnant shit.
Churches are the places where toxic masculinity starts.

(50,911 posts)where even that becomes overwhelming.
I can't help but think of what the last child, the third one he killed, felt as he or she watched their own father kill the other two out of spite.
What a heartbreak.
And the gun people and the churches have this blood on their hands.

(25,816 posts)If god truly had a gender, it would be feminine to me- the womb of our children.
It seems the concept of a male god hasn't worked very well.
To me, god is totality of all being, animal, mineral and vegetable plus things that go beyond
our scope of understanding. As humans, we have only five senses, and they do not pick up
everything. Hell, a dog can hear and smell things we can't, etc, etc.

(50,911 posts)40, I decided I had given enough time to defaulting to masculine in my thoughts about God, who I, too, believe is genderless. I decided to change all the pronouns to feminine and give THAT 40 years.
It was a very, very profound change. It really does completely change your perspective.

(17 posts)We need to repeal the 2nd Amendment, confiscate all guns from everybody and incarcerate anyone who doesn't comply.

(17 posts)In the meantime, we can put sane justices on the Supreme Court who will read the 2nd Amendment as a collective right (the way it was always intended) instead of an individual one.
The American people have had enough of this and are coming for your murder-toys.
Dial H For Hero
(2,971 posts)And that one was extraordinarily unpopular. In the short to medium term repealing the 2A is politically impossible. In the long term, who knows? But I think it will be many decades before such a proposal has even a slight chance of coming to pass.

(17,464 posts)I have never been shot.
This story is tragic beyond words. Why didn't the man just kill himself? It will be interesting to see how the NRA can put a positive spin on this one. Perhaps, "If only the children had had guns..." Or maybe, it never happened, or it was a false flag operation...
I do despise the National Republican Army.

(31,105 posts)And over again and nothing is ever done to address the real cause: allowing everyone to buy whoever guns they want.
And another is family members killing their own kids, spouses, exes, and then committing suicide.
Why dont they just kill themselves and let that be it?
Yesterday I read about a case in TN where a man shot his theee sons and their half-sister.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daryl_Holton
He went to the electric chair. Most of the time, Im against the death penalty. But this case Im glad. Im glad Tennessee gave him the death penalty.
I think I need to take a break from this. A mental break anyway because you cant really take a break from it.
