If Ukraine joins EU, would EU defend them with troops?
Or is it only NATO that would send in troops?

Ukraine currently just has candidate status, though, a necessary first step and one that was fast-tracked because of this emergency. But I have no idea how that affects how much help, especially in terms of troops, they'll receive from the EU. Full membership in the EU typically takes years since the candidate countries are supposed to make changes first to bring them more into accord with the EU.
