"F'd up" obit of a Capitol rioter

Matt Perna, who had pleaded guilty in December to four counts related to breaching the Capitol, died of a "broken heart," his family said in his obituary. He was 37. The exact cause of death was not immediately available Monday, but his family said in the obituary that the prosecution of his case was partly to blame for his death.
"His community, which he loved, his country and the justice system killed his spirit and his zest for life," the obituary said.

Perna drove to Washington on Jan. 6, 2021, to attend the Donald Trump rally falsely declaring that the election was stolen. He marched on the Capitol and entered the building wearing a "Make America Great Again" sweatshirt. He stayed inside for 20 minutes, filming with his phone and chanting "U.S.A." with the crowd. He later posted a video to his Facebook page ...
In the video, Perna blamed Antifa for breaking into the Capitol and said,
"The purpose of today was to expose Pence as a traitor."

A Penn State grad, Perna had lived in Thailand and South Korea at one time his family said. He also traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, India and South America and had gone on a trip to Haiti. His family said in the obituary he had attended the Trump rally to "peacefully stand up for his beliefs."
They said he was "ushered in" by police and didn't cause damage or steal anything.

The obituary said his family members stood by him during the prosecution and are "extremely proud of his passion for life and his pursuit of many dreams."

These people don't get it that they're the bad guys, they are the ones against their country. They should all feel disgraced, but they've been handled with kid gloves the entire way by the courts and the media. They tried to overthrow our Democracy, they are pure scum for that and deserve to be viewed as anti American traitors.

is that he finally realized he'd be lied to about the stolen election, and the embarrassment was too much to bear.

Seemingly highly educated people falling prey to crude lies with no evidence? I'd be embarrassed.

Dying from a broken heart is an actual medical condition, known as stress cardiomyopathy.

This guy is just a loose, smelly turd who stepped out because real life didn't live up to his putrid fantasies.

This is just one of them, and it's often called Takotsubo's cardiomyopathy.

There are also hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy, restrictive, and so on.

Anyway, I'm not saying that's how he died. Looks like suicide, and good riddance.

I'm simply saying it is possible to die of a broken heart.

was actually on a pretty decent track at one point, as a PSU grad and world traveler. Perhaps the Haiti trip was part of a recovery effort following the earthquake.

But at some point, he made the decision to go down the rabbit hole, and Chump carries so much responsibility for the enabling of this.

been made to feel to be a victim, for sure (which is what the white, male GOP has been pushing for a while now), but obviously something in him took it a bit too far.

Seems to me his family and friends, instead of getting him help, perpetuated his "helplessness" and depression.

Conspiracy theorists and nihslists prey on otherwise smart people by appealing to the crisis emotional instincts - the same emotions that keep us riveted to TV as a disaster unfolds - and suck them in that way.
We all want to be heros. It validates us.
However, some need constant validation, and will go anywhere/do anything to keep that feeling of doing something important just to be able to wake up every morning. It seems that this guy, however smart and kind and gentle he was, chased his need to be valid down the Q rabbit hole, and his family had no problems with it.

39. Pennsylvania man dies by suicide after pleading guilty to Capitol riot charges
Tue Mar 1, 2022, 01:54 PM
Mar 2022

Matthew Perna, 37, took his own life and died February 25, according to investigators. Perna pleaded guilty in December to entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, obstruction of an official proceeding and aiding and abetting, disorderly and disruptive conduct on a restricted building or grounds and disorderly conduct in a Capitol building.

Perna was inside the Capitol building for 20 minutes and posted video of his actions to social media, according to prosecutors. He later claimed that he was pushed inside the Capitol building by the rioting mob.

An obituary posted online blames his prosecution for his suicide.

“He attended the rally on January 6, 2021, to peacefully stand up for his beliefs. After learning that the FBI was looking for him, he immediately turned himself in. He entered the Capitol through a previously opened door (he did not break in as was reported) where he was ushered in by police. He didn’t break, touch, or steal anything. He did not harm anyone, as he stayed within the velvet ropes taking pictures. For this act, he has been persecuted by many members of his community, friends, relatives, and people who had never met him. Many people were quietly supportive, and Matt was truly grateful for them. The constant delays in hearings and postponements dragged out for over a year. Because of this, Matt’s heart broke and his spirit died, and many people are responsible for the pain he endured. Matt did not have a hateful bone in his body. He embraced people of all races, income brackets, and beliefs, never once berating anyone for having different views.” the obituary read.
