Does Tucker Carlson really think he's being clever by repeatedly calling AOC "Sandy"?

Lordy, you would think that someone named "Tucker" would have enough sense not to dick around with the pronunciation of anybody else's name.

Of course, racist fuckwads and trust-fund babies aren't ordinarily recognized for their intellectual prowess, and since Carlson hit the Daily Double on that score, I suppose it's fortunate that on a good day he can figure out how to wipe his own ass.

In any case, the fact that this sad, silly, and deeply unserious little dweeb has become a leading light among conservative voices tells us all we need to know about that pitiful conglomeration of misfits.

Tucker Swanson McNear Carlson ... the poster boy for backpfeifengesicht.

but was also doing a TV gig with Carlson on the side, noted on her AA show that people would be surprised where Carlson really fell politically. She was alluding to the fact that his personal views where a lot closer to hers than the TV persona he had assumed at that time.

As Cheap Trick sang, 'He's a whore, he'll do anything for money".

Ed. note: Saw the 'Trick' at a dive bar in '77, right after they released their first album, when they were a proto-punk band. Holee Shit what a show.

it's a way of demeaning her with a childish nickname. I think years ago she might have used it herself but has outgrown it now. After all she's a grown up adult Congresswoman!

People who have exceptionally Latino sounding names will sometimes opt to use a more White sounding form of their name in places where they are a minority.

I use my middle name as my primary name because so many teachers butchered the pronunciation and it would lead to teasing by other kids in elementary school.

Carlson is using that name to demean AOC to be sure, but it isn't overtly a racial taunt.

He calls her "Sandy Cortez" to indicate that she tried to "whitewash" herself at school.

I would say a more "Anglo" name that is related to Alexandria. Sometimes when we Hispanic folk have a name that is "too Hispanic" we may tend to use a more easily pronounced nickname, in situations where we are a distinct minority.

I believe that "Sandy" was the name that AOC used when she was in high school and at Boston University. I myself use my middle name since grade school after a few years of having teachers absolutely butcher it and getting teased by school mates. Also, my first name is also my father's name, so the apodo (nickname) that I got from family as a result always had the "ito" which means "little or jr." so I had incentive to use my middle name, which was my own.

Carlson is basically trying to infantilize AOC as she has become more secure in her Latina identity and uses Alexandria rather than the nickname she adapted in school.

He is simply triggered by a young, educated, powerful woman of color and has no other method to deal with it than misogyny and racism.

He knew him very well. His girlfriend at the time was Tucker's wife roommate. We teased my friend all the time that he knew Tucker but until recently I never knew how well he knew him. He said Tucker is really smart. I don't think my friend ever thought he would turn out to b such a dick.
