Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) didnt buy House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthys (R-Calif.) criticism of Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Paul Gosar (R-Ariz) for speaking at a white nationalist America First Political Action Conference over the weekend.
McCarthys claim there was no place in our party for any of this rang hollow for Ocasio-Cortez, who slammed the House GOP leader for protecting his little KKK Caucus for years with toothless statements.
Its how he covers for them, the progressive lawmaker tweeted. Hes now helped them for so long theyve escalated their open antisemitism & collaboration w/ white nationalist groups. Hes just as culpable.

AOC is right. Games Fascists Play. Bloviate on TV to the selected audience, carry on with business as usual.
And as usual, the media allows itself to be used to deceive the public.

(58,785 posts)That's from the DSA's statement on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and Ocasio-Cortez is a member. Russia's very aggressive imperialism predated the establishment of our nation by some centuries.
Compared to the need of a DSA member in congress to clarify her position on that, surely this attack on McCarthy's statement against could maybe been an "O, yes, and..." tacked to the bottom?
To be clear, the DSA's statement condemns Russia's invasion before blaming the United States for it. Ocasio-Cortez has never come out against NATO or US participation in it, but like Senator Sanders, and a host of American appeasers and apologists for Russia's "viewpoint," has advocated against involvement with Ukraine.

(58,785 posts)in magazine articles and such as their website was closed, if not agreeing at least finding their viewpoints, and plentiful criticisms , occasionally worth checking.
But around the 2015 campaigns, as extremism and aggressive populist movements grew on both right and left, a lot of newly radicalized types, including LW authoritarians, with most far more committed to populist overthrow of the democratic "establishment" than to socialism, started pouring into the DSA and changing its character -- just as tRump's populism did the right.
Kind of hard on the real, rational socialists of the DSA; but given what's happened there and to "rational" conservatives on the radicalized right, I have no idea how many have survived.

This doesn't seem like someone who "advocated against involvement" to me.

(58,785 posts)Politicians on our side condemn the invasion. Most pre-invasion Russia apologists and appeasers, who condemned any interference Russia's special "rights" in the region, condemn the invasion. Bernie Sanders took a stand against invasion.
Even the DSA condemns the invasion now that it's happened -- and blames the U.S.
