I had to get a slow leak in a tire fixed. I walked in and sure enough, Fox was on the TV. It was running down President Biden. There was a lady sitting there watching it. When they called her to the front desk, they explained the tire she had could not be fixed. A previous patch was leaking. Then they told her both FRONT tires on her front wheel drive were under 4/32. They did say she would get ONE new tire free with the road hazard warranty she had.
She called her husband about what to do on her cell phone. After she explained it would be $350 total for the second front tire and an alignment, he started yelling loud enough for me to hear him. After several minutes he demanded to talk to the manager on her cell. It went down hill. She took the phone outside.
I rushed to the counter and asked to change the station. They gave me the remote. I switched to MSNBC. Before I left there were THREE new customers that came in to wait on work, watching MSNBC.
My tire (a nail and a stem leak) was covered by a road hazard warranty. No charge. I left smiling, feeling good about changing the channel away from Fox.

(102,236 posts)(usually $20), balancing and discard fees, my heavens. Not to defend a Fox-cultist, but damn.
This sounds like it might have been Discount Tires (?), which has always done well by me. In fact, when I had a flat last month, they decided to cover the second tire too because it had sidewall cracks. So to replace two warranted tires, I paid $65 and those were two expensive special snow-rated all-weather radial tires that had to be ordered from a regional warehouse.
Just saying... Maybe she was charged the a'hole premium?

(20,629 posts)performed, which was 25+ years ago, the car never tracked quite right after it was done. I totally understand the need for an alignment following an accident, or even something like striking a really bad pothole, but more often than not, it's a case of "the shop manager needing to make another boat payment", as the NPR "Car Talk" Magliozzi brothers liked to say!
Regarding the tire price, it is most likely a very large SUV or pickup, or some really high performance tire for something like a Corvette. I've always driven Honda sedans, and even the highest-end tires are no more than $150-160 each.

(2,809 posts)Certainly if such a suggestion garners an attitude then I'm certain who I DON'T want to be doing business with.
To that end, I've been letting Loves Truck Stops know how they are offending many customers on their website:
"Many of my family are avoiding Loves truck stops because of Fox News being forced onto patrons at many locations. Forcing political propaganda onto a customer base is not a good business practice, and only becoming more offensive since the haphazard lethal falsehoods about the pandemic."
I encourage others to do so too. It's long past time we let these people know how they are offending Americans.

(2,957 posts)There are, like, 8 TV's at my gym. A lot of the time, 2 of them are on FoxNews. If there are very few people in the gym, I'll change one to CNN and the other to some other channel. If there are more people in the gym and I see anyone looking at the FoxNews channel, I'll wait until they're away and I'll put Fox on one TV only, at the very back corner of the cardio area. And I'll verify the other 7 are on a non-Fox channel.
Lately, I've been seeing less Fox on any of the TV's when I get in. I think they know someone keeps changing TV's away from Fox and are starting to keep it down to zero or one TV only.

Memorize the controls and keep it in your pocket. Act really inconspicuous, like you don't even realize there's a
TV in the room. Screw with them hard. I dare you not to bust out laughing. Endless fun.

(81,227 posts)I always ask nicely and politely.
There was only one time - at a restaurant near the Camarillo airport, where the hostess told me, in kind of a chagrinned manner, that the owner mandated that the big screen ALWAYS be tuned to Pox Noise (although the owner didn't refer to it that way!), so they dared not change the channel.
That told me something: that either
1) they've had this request before, from customers,
or
2) the staff hates it but realizes if they wanna keep working there, they have to grin 'n' bear it.
EITHER WAY, it's good intel. I doubt the owner would have laid down that dictate if the subject hadn't already come up somehow, somewhere, from someone(s).

Right after we got the TV I was in the lounge as the bar manager was setting up to open and was almost finished when a couple of the other guys came in and I had to back out before they saw what I was up to. I was just entering my password. 30 more seconds and I would have had it!

(111,254 posts)it's either CNN or a non news channel. Pep Boys had the Science Channel on the last time I went there. The local bank branch has CNN with closed captioning and the sound off, so my blind ass can ignore it completely.
MSNBC might be a shock to the systems of regular Pox viewers. I'd most likely have changed it to CNN so the TV had a shot at staying off Pox for a longer period. Just sayin;, MSNBC has fact checkers but the language is still loaded.
