The trucker protest by the Washington Monument is off to a slow and cold start. As of now, only 10 folks with the Stage of Freedom event are here. More press and police than rally-goers.

Gosh ... lock out money from Russia and suddenly these astroturf "protests" are completely empty. I'm sure it totally a coincidence ....

Wow, this huge Freedom Convoy trucker rally in DC is lit. Really making a bold statement. Three weeks of hype from Steve Bannon every day. For this? From @FordFischer

(2,248 posts)The "truckers" are dicks and look soooooo foolish right now. Nobody has ANY sympathy for them at the moment.

(82,849 posts)But the evidence before your own eyes shows that you have wildly - perhaps even delusionally (as in not allowed out in public unaccompanied) - overestimated the number of your supporters.
Wouldn't now be a good time for a slice of rhubarb pie?

(58,785 posts)Some are pulling out today in different states apparently. Including one from WA that says it will meet up with others near Peoria on March 5 to continue on. (?) How many are in those, or if any more cancel, may be an indicator.
It seems that the media are mostly trying to avoid publicizing and rabblerousing by giving them the attention they need. I scanned some local papers covering those through their towns and found the lack of at least estimates of numbers suspicious. Highways are normally full of trucks, but the convoys do park for the night. A paper at a stop for "The People's Convoy" said "hundreds" but it was clearly a friendly puff piece, plus no indication how many were friends and relatives bringing vehicles for sightseeing.
Probably turnout will nothing like they hoped (bless their hearts) and hopefully embarrassing, but with big rigs converging from across the nation outside the DC perimeter, there should ultimately be enough to cause some trouble, beyond just to the commuters who clog up the perimeter most days themselves.
