Twitter suspends US Senate candidate for hateful conduct

ST. LOUIS (AP) — A U.S. Senate candidate for Missouri says she has no plans to delete a transphobic tweet that violated Twitter's rules against hateful conduct, even after the social media platform said she won’t be able to tweet, retweet, follow or like posts until she does.

Twitter suspended Vicky Hartzler ’s personal account on Monday.

Hartzler's tweet, posted in mid-February, said: "Women’s sports are for women, not men pretending to be women,” and included her TV ad targeting transgender people in sports and particularly University of Pennsylvania swimmer Lia Thomas.

A statement from Hartzler's campaign called the suspension “shameful, utterly ridiculous, and a horrible abuse of censorship by big tech giants to stifle free speech.” The campaign said Hartzler will not delete the tweet.

If someone were to call *you* (Ms Hartzler) "a stupid c[redacted]" you'd be SCREAMING for them to do something about it.

No leg to stand on as this is a private company that has TOS that anyone who joins must agree to.

Vicky Hartzler's is too ignorant to serve in it.

Vicky crawl back to the dark ages, we have moved towards the LIGHT! You are not needed since you can't contribute to it. Take your darkness away from here!

The Senate is for Americans who believe in democracy and human rights, not goose-stepping Nazi thugs pretending to be human beings.

Meanwhile, I am utterly shocked, truly shocked, that Twitter - of all services - did the right thing and suspended her account. That said? She wants to double and triple down? Go the distance and just make it a permanent ban.

Imagine thinking something one says is important enough to be their last word.

Don't delete, don't do tweet.
An complete understanding of 'freedom to speak' (different than 1st A) is impossible without a willingness to be silent.

I am going to get tombstoned for this and I really don't give a shit.

What people like Lia Thomas are doing isn't helping trans people: it's demonstrating to pragmatic Dems and independent voters that the woke have lost their minds, and the Democratic party is going to follow them off a cliff in the name of bowing to activists who demand we pretend to believe, and use forced speech.

Republicans are going to run on this issue, and they're doing it because they know the overwhelming majority of voters agree with them, no matter how hard the NYT tries to hide the fact its own readership - the most educated, liberal in the world - isn't falling for it.
