No cheating!
Meanwhile, also look at the convoy on the road to Kiev. We are not amused. We have to help Ukraine fight off this onslaught. It was good news that it was bogged down, but that won't last.
It seems to me that, even if Putin does not accomplish the take over of all of Ukraine, he will at least destroy Kiev. Perhaps his mission all along was just to replace that government. Nobody knows what this astonishing assault is all about. It sure isn't any humanitarian concern for Donbas.
The best news I've heard is that the EU may accept Ukraine as a member.

Look at those faces! Would you mess with either one of those guys?
I am still thinking of what award you should receive.

(46,918 posts)Kill the Ukrainian leaders and generals. Destroy all communications.
And major military installations.
Get the country to then surrender.
Send in ground troops to secure the other cities.
And do mop up.
Putin wanted to show the world he is a strong, in control, superpower, who would control the West. He hoped to shift global power in his favor.
He would control the West. China would control the East.
Together they would be the 21st century superpowers.
Once Putin took over the US GOP, and owned half the congress, weakened America, he felt invincible. Ready to take on Europe.

(6,513 posts)The attention span of the world is about a week and a half. After that, most witnesses will move on to the next big controversy. That is, if they are not nuked into oblivion.
I am deeply concerned about the outcome of this matter. My nature is to fight like hell and tromp Russia into the ground. I know that we can't do that. Not because we can't actually do it, but because we shouldn't do that. But, damn, I am pissed about Ukraine.
I will keep praying that G-d, the Goddess, shows the way, all the while wishing that a bomber would come overhead and take out the convoy.
I trust that Chef Andres is busy being "my representative" and doing what I cannot at present: taking care of displaced people, hurt people, and bewildered people who just need to eat. I am heartened by reports of border countries arriving with vehicles to take them to safety; disheartened by reports from the UN that minorities are being discriminated against at this horrible time.
This has all got to stop. G-d, please send a lot of mud. We want mud on the convoy. Amen.

We are in a bind, but we may have to act at some point.
We cannot let Putin threaten the world with nuclear bombs and let him terrorize innocent countries. Next he will move on to the rest of Europe.
We will never be safe.
We cannot let him rule the West and impose autocratic systems on us.
But we cannot risk blowing up the world.
Right now many countries are coalescing to help Ukraine in the most unique type of war I have ever seen. It is heartening to see.
But make no mistake, it could get very ugly and very painful to watch.
I have been saying enough Hail Marys to sink a ship, I hope the Blessed Mother helps the women and children of Ukraine.
I have a lot of expertise in psychology, so have been trying to explain Putin's mental status, his psych profile, and the psychosocial aspects of the war.
And I am a WWII history buff so trying to explain some of the military aspects of the war. I am trying to help the best way I can for my DU friends and colleagues.

No good results for Russia either way.

(6,513 posts)and gets away with this appalling, atrocious land grab, he will focus on Poland, and the Balkans. He will control the Azov Sea, so he will annex that. Next comes all of Georgia, and maybe Moldova.
Gee, stuff to look forward to (not)! I think Irish Dem in this thread most clearly summed up the dilemma that we are in. We can either submit, or not. If not, then we better get to it. We have to insure that Ukraine is not beaten.
As far as it not being a good result for Russia either way, remember that Putin doesn't seem to respond to anyone or anything that doesn't reward him. He doesn't care what happens to the Russian people, or anyone else. He is very much like, what, a psychopath? What person would do this? He may be holding peace talks, but you can bet all he is saying is, "Surrender."

(32,673 posts)Back to their attack on Japan, thinking Empire with an easy victory. Caused the death of the Czars. Then Afghan and the loss of Eastern Europe. They have never had a plan B. Poland is part of NATO now. I don't think that would work, along with other members in the area.
