Russia has deployed launching systems capable of sending deadly thermobaric rockets at Ukrainian targets, a senior U.S. defense official told reporters on Tuesday, a possible signal that the Kremlin is readying more terrifying weapons in order to strike fear into the population after logistical hurdles have hampered the early stages of the military campaign.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive military topic, would not confirm where Russia had placed the thermobaric launchers. And the Defense Department had not confirmed that Russia had put in place or used any thermobaric munitions as of Tuesday, according to the official. But Kyiv and observers on the ground have gone further: Ukraines ambassador to the United States and rights groups said on Monday that Russia had already used the weapon.
Also known as vacuum bombs, thermobaric munitions create a high-temperature reaction by sucking in oxygen from the surrounding area, producing a longer blast wave than conventional bombs. Russia is likely to employ the weapons to terrorize the Ukrainian army and civilian resistance, experts told Foreign Policy, in a possible effort to overcome logistical snags that have held back the military advance toward major cities such as Kharkiv and Kyiv.
They will kill not just in the direct vicinity of the impact, said Mick Mulroy, a former deputy assistant secretary of defense and CIA officer. It [will] suck the oxygen out of the air and out of the lungs of people nearby. It is horrendous.

Like watching the nazis in WW2.
How much atrocity will we watch, and stand by doing nothing?

Most of the EU/NATO partners are supplying it, but they have to get the equipment to where it can be used.

How much atrocity will we watch, and stand by doing nothing?
You say the whole world that are sending arms, planes, bombs, cutting off accounts, blocking their internet, their propaganda outlets, sending them intel alerts, etc are doing nothing?

Read what we can and will do.
The first and only time NATO invoked Article 5 was in response to the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, in support of the U.S. On Thursday, Biden said the U.S. and its NATO allies "will meet our Article 5 commitments" if necessary in response to Russian aggression, though they are seeking to deescalate the conflict through increased sanctions.
"If [Putin] did move into NATO countries, we will be involved," Biden told reporters. "The only thing that I am convinced of is -- if we don't stop now, he'll be emboldened. If we don't move against him now with these significant sanctions, he will be emboldened."
U.S. officials see Article 5 as another deterrent for any further Russian aggression.
"Is it a possibility that Putin goes beyond Ukraine? Sure, it's a possibility, but there's something very powerful standing in the way of that -- that's something we call Article 5 of NATO," Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in an interview with ABC's David Muir on Thursday. "The president's been very clear that we will defend every inch of NATO territory. I think that's the most powerful deterrent against President Putin going beyond Ukraine."
