But, no confirmation that they stormed the Capitol. All I heard was that they went and held up the flag. I doubt that they would storm the building. And one of them was ex-FBI. She just doesn't have that kind of rowdy nature.
Would love to hear her pov.

(101,698 posts)Someone who did that would be NO friend to me and I'd do NOTHING to defend them. Even if they were a family member.

(46,570 posts)She has a sweet disposition. What happened at the Capitol was just not the kind of thing that she would do. However, if I get confirmation otherwise, I will contact the FBI.

(12,581 posts)If she did, she no longer functions in the real world.
You can feel sorry for her, but at this point, she may as well be a drug addict or habitually drunk on conspiracy theories.
And being former FBI doesn't save or excuse her from allowing herself to be manipulated, especially if she joined (as many people join law enforcement) to offset some feeling of inadequacy or self-perceived need to be a hero and save the world.
I'm sorry she fell. But she's a grown-up and just because she seemed to be a sweet person, she still needs to take responsibility for her actions, like everyone else does.

(31,798 posts)Tens of thousands were there according to the media. Only a few hindered went inside the capitol building. Despite what some others are saying the FBI would ignore any "report" of someone being there.

(8,261 posts)There was a demonstration down the mall, then at the then Presidents urging, the crowd was sent to attack the Capitol.

(1,373 posts)Don't you know the new rules to protesting are if I don't agree with the message of the protest, then the protesters are terrorists?
If they were there "Let the FBI sort them out!"
When Republicans start using the same tactic on BLM protesters if Antifa starts breaking windows, we will all say "Let the FBI sort them out!"

(17,304 posts)I disagree with their philosophy, but I would fight to protect their right to protest.
The ones who crossed the barriers are a different story. The ones who violated the building are criminal thugs deserving long prison stays....all of them. The leaders need to be stripped of their property and citizenship and deported. Most of the right wingers that violated the building would be the very same people who support the right to defend their homes with deadly force. Well, they violated my house, and what is good for the goose is good for the other goose.

(42,770 posts)public opinion if we had differentiated the crowd. Remember a foreign journalist saying such that very day.
A small town paper here in red country ran a full story about three men who went up there just to support FG. They claim they bought tshirts, didn't venture down to Capital and hated it because they had to wait 30 min for a cab back to their hotel. Dumb and wayward thinkers but not violent insurrectionists.

Approximately 640 defendants have been charged with entering or remaining in a restricted federal building or grounds. Over 75 defendants have been charged with entering a restricted area with a dangerous or deadly weapon. More than 45 defendants have been charged with destruction of government property, and over 30 defendants have been charged with theft of government property.
At least 275 defendants have been charged with corruptly obstructing, influencing, or impeding an official proceeding, or attempting to do so. Approximately 40 defendants have been charged with conspiracy, either: (a) conspiracy to obstruct a congressional proceeding, (b) conspiracy to obstruct law enforcement during a civil disorder, (c) conspiracy to injure an officer, or (d) some combination of the three.

(4,845 posts)I've long thought that we need to distinguish between people who went to the "protest" and the people who did the insurrection by storming the capitol building.
We can argue and disagree with their reasoning for the protests but they have the same rights we have (like the BLM protests and women's march) to protest as long as it's peaceful. And while we need to condemn the insurrection, not everyone who attended the 1/6 "protest" is participating or are for a violent insurrection.
But well, I don't think our reasoning/thinking is all that popular around here.

(2,803 posts)There was a permit for the rally.
No permit for the march.
Doesn't make the march a federal crime. But does somewhat damage your apparent claim that everything short of entry into the capitol building was perfectly legitimate First Amendment exercise.
Also: The entire area around the Capitol was restricted. Remember all those barriers that got tipped over? The lines of cops retreating?
You down with that, too?

(58,785 posts)Capitol, back the main route toward the mall, as the roar of the mob developed. I didn't see video of what must have been thousands who moved back away from the Capitol but remained where they could observe what was happening.
It's hard to understand how anyone could go expecting to join only a peaceful patriotic rally, apparently strongly discounting anything that got through about potential for violence and attempted insurrection; but whatever thoughts they started out with, many thousands faced with the reality took a powder.

(43,079 posts)No idea if he actually went in.
But he is 100% deplorable. Like Trump, he's a business owner who inherited his family business, so no "economic anxiety" on his end. Likes to show off his boat and his late model pickup truck. Proud and avowed Trumpist on all counts, with lots of phony patriotism mixed in.
Also a nasty son-of-a-bitch who beats his wife.
