the countrys bank regulator has announced.
China is a major buyer of Russian oil and gas and the only major government that has refrained from criticizing Moscows attack on Ukraine, the Associated Press reported.
Beijing opposes the sanctions, said Guo Shuqing, the chairman of the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission.
Reuters: Guo Shuqing, chairman of the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission on Russian sanctions: "We will not participate in such sanctions. We will continue to maintain normal economic and trade exchanges with relevant parties..."
(so, china is basically siding with russia, surprise surprise, and they will laugh all the way to the bank.

(128,851 posts)The latest action from the Mexican president stands in contrast to the international sanctions imposed on Russia for President Vladimir Putins actions.

Mexico will not impose any economic sanctions on Russia for invading Ukraine, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said on Tuesday. He also criticized what he called censorship of Russian state-sponsored media by social media companies. We are not going to take any sort of economic reprisal because we want to have good relations with all the governments in the world, López Obrador told a news conference.
López Obradors position stands in contrast to the international sanctions imposed on Russia for President Vladimir Putins actions. Russia has built strong links to various governments in Latin America, especially authoritarian administrations in Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, but its ties with Mexico are seen to be limited due to the strong U.S.-Mexico relations.
The Mexican and U.S. economies are deeply intertwined. But leftist leader López Obrador has at times had testy relations with the United States and has criticized U.S. foreign policy. López Obradors comments came in response to a question about the interest in Mexico of Russias second-largest oil producer Lukoil and Russian airline Aeroflot.

(24,761 posts)Why the hell did we send all our manufacturing jobs to China? So they could hit us over the head with economic or even military threats? Xi can GTH AFAIC!
We should bring back manufacturing to the US yesterday and call out the corporate execs who put their bottom line ahead of their patriotic duty--without the profiteering they've been getting away with for decades. Last I checked, there is a law against doing business with America's enemies, the Trading With the Enemy Act.

Not a defense, but knowing what I know about China and "face," this isn't surprising at all.
