Tanks and mud are not friends Ukraines terrain is proving to be a problem for Russian armor
Eastern Europe is either frozen or its fucking muddy, thats just how it is.
The Russian army is finding out the hard way that, besides anti-tank missiles, land mines, and Molotov cocktails, one of the greatest threats to tanks is the earth itself, at least when its mixed with a little too much water. Even before Russia invaded Ukraine last week, the internet was filled with images of fearsome Russian armor and other vehicles stuck in the mud. As one Marine explained, getting stuck in the mud is not a question of if, but when.

(29,194 posts)I've been saying for weeks (to my friends in Romania) that Putin needed to move in late January or early Feb. Global Warming has decreased winter months by some 2 to 3 weeks. Tanks (as the Germans in WWII found out) do not like dealing in mud... and they abhor being stuck on paved roads (convoys are sitting ducks).
Putin waited 2 weeks too long to start this invasion... and the Ukrainians have (to date) put up much more resistance (but I fear they are out of anti-tank missiles... otherwise that 40 mile convoy should be wiped out) than expected.
The tanks can no longer move across open fields and advance quickly.
We need to get the resistance 1000s of javelins and other anti tank/armor weapons quickly.
Apparently their Turkish made drones are doing an excellent job too, I hope we can get them many more of these/

Rasputitsa (Russian: распу́тица, IPA: [rɐsˈputʲɪtsə]) is a Russian term for two seasons of the year, spring and autumn, when travel on unpaved roads or across country becomes difficult, owing to muddy conditions from rain or melting snow.

There are epic stories of entire tanks vanishing into the mud.
