Ukraine has decided to return prisoners of war to their mothers if they come to Ukraine

This is a Google translation of the page.

IMPORTANT! VERY IMPORTANT!

I ask you to convey this information to thousands of unfortunate mothers, Russians, whose sons were taken prisoner in Ukraine.

It was decided to give the captured Russian soldiers to their mothers if they come for them to Ukraine, to Kiev.

What needs to be done to bring your son back from captivity?

1. You need to call the phone numbers listed in the leaflet in order to find out if your son is in captivity or died, you need to go to the telegram channel Cargo 200 .

Or call the hotline of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine - "Come back alive from Ukraine" to multi-channel phones.

+380894201860
+380894201861
+380894201862

Or write to the mail:

Vernis_iz_ukraine@gmail.com

Then, if you have received confirmation that your son is in our captivity, the mothers of Russian soldiers must get to Kiev.

After Putin's fascist army invaded and closed the airspace, this can only be done in this way:

Get to Kaliningrad or Minsk. From there by bus or taxi to the Polish border.

Then through the territory of Poland you need to get to the checkpoint with Ukraine.

There you will be met and escorted to Kiev, where you will be handed over your son.

We, Ukrainians, unlike Putin's fascists, are not at war with mothers and their captive children.

We are waiting for you in Kiev!

Slavic languages, I only knew the word babushka as the scarf tied under the chin that Polish and Russian women wear. Had to look it up to make sense of your post.

The only other Slavic words that I know are Russian "da" and "nyet" and Polish "dziekuje" (thank you). Had to look up the Polish spelling since I have only heard it spoken.

Babushka is Russian for grandmother. We Americans have misappropriated it for years as the scarf. I always said baBOOSHka...but it's really Ba-bush-ka.

Saves on body bags if you don't have anyone killed.

These young kids must have believed they were going on a great adventure of playing army. Just turned out it wasn't playing.

without knowing what they were being sent into. It seems so incredulous that one has to wonder how this could even be possible.

If this is true, I'm thinking that it would be unsafe for those mothers and sons to return to Russia.

where US soldiers signed up to fight terrorism after 9/11, not invade a completely unrelated country. I bet plenty of soldiers had no idea why they were sent to Vietnam. Many still don't know.

But I'm pretty sure armies generally tell their soldiers their specific objective. Hell most even train specifically to achieve their objective. As opposed to being told you are going camping and wondering why you are being shot at.

Wouldn't it be nice if the International Red Cross could help, because they are recognized as a peaceful non-political group. Making sure the men can return home to their families with no repercussions from the government. That would be a wonderful goal.

I mean, is he going to open fire on a bunch of the soldiers' mothers????

As a practical point, Ukraine shouldn't claim to know the fate of any of the soldiers except those whom they are holding as prisoners. They should only be in the practice of delivering the live sons back to their mothers. Make Putin answer for the dead.

travel to Kyiv to claim their sons unless they could stay in Ukraine or a neighboring country not at war.
As unhinged as Putler is by jailing anti-war protesters, what would he do to those he considers deserters?

but it seems to be so dangerous for the mothers. They could just as well bring the soldiers to the Polish border. It could heal some wounds and strengthen the bond between the countries though.
Whatever happens once they meet in Kyiv, either pictures of parents reuniting with their children or Putin being so dumb to bomb his own people, it would have such devastating effects for Putin.

If they've surrendered. Or, if captured, just sent right back?

I'm worried this dangerous for the Russian soldiers who don't want to be there in the first place.

'We were sent as cannon fodder. We're killing peaceful people': Weeping Russian POWs say they had no idea they were being sent to war and were made 'to attack people defending their territory'

Weeping Russian prisoners of war have said they had no idea they were being sent to invade Ukraine and were used like 'cannon fodder' by commanders who threw them into battle against 'peaceful people defending their territory' after Vladimir Putin's forces took heavy losses in the opening days of the conflict.

It is better for the young man to be picked up by their Mother or other family member. The men would never get home if they were turned over to anyone under Putin.

Food should go to the Ukrainians. So, if we hear that prisoners are being moved out of Ukraine across some neutral border, it will probably be because they can't care for them. I'd rather have that happen than simply killing or starving them. Conversion is better than hostility. Remove them from the battlefield one way or another.

But, I feel strongly that this is in defense of Kiev. It's not really human shielding. It's an opportunity for people to leave the battlefield. But, I feel that the Russian convoy will surround Kiev and reduce it to rubble, unless Ukraine gets some kind of help. Also, it's telling Russia that they will lose those prisoners also, if they get shelled. But, Russia won't care.
