JUST IN: By a vote of 141 to 5, the @UN General Assemblythats every country in the worldhas overwhelmingly voted in solidarity with Ukraine, demanding Russia end its brutal invasion.

HERES WHY THIS MATTERS: This is a global rebuke of historic proportions. Look not just at the YES vote total, condemning Russia, but at *which* countries voted in favor. Putin is isolated to an unprecedented degree. Even his longstanding partners are condemning this invasion.

(22,767 posts)The only countries that stood before the GA and spoke against the resolution besides Russia were: Cuba, Syria, Venezuela, Nicaragua, N. Korea and Belarus. Eritrea voted against, but I did not see/here them speak and I watched the entire proceedings the past two days.

(22,767 posts)I don't recall their ambassador speaking before the GA, and I was watching all of them, keeping track during those presentations of those who spoke against it. There were only a handful or so that spoke afterwards to explain their vote.
I was also surprised that Monaco apparently wasn't present to vote, after their ambassador spoke for the resolution yesterday, and that UAE also voted for it after abstaining in the Security Council vote.
There might possibly be a statement issued by the Armenian goverment department somewhere if you want to look.

Russia has several defense-related agreements with Armenia. The first is the 2002 CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization)
In 2016 Russia and Armenia agreed to a mutual defense pact that included a joint Russian-Armenian military force in Armenia. This joint force was for use against any military threat to either nation. This mainly benefits Armenia. The 2016 treaty allowed Russia to continue deliveries of weapons and ammo to Armenia in 2016 despite the fact that Armenian troops were fighting forces from neighboring Azerbaijan once more.
