Abramovich says he has instructed his team to set up a charitable foundation where all net proceeds from the sale will be for the benefit of all victims of the war in Ukraine.

Either way, if it ends up being used for a good cause (I guess victims of the war includes Russians as well), then whatever, no reason to not accept the gesture.

(32,599 posts)... so it doesn't matter any more. Abramovich is the owner of the team because the previous owner sold it to him and accepted his Russian "blood money" as payment. Now Abramovich is free to sell it for whatever price and do what he wants with the dough. If he donates some of it to help Ukraine, well OK. But that doesn't help the Russian people he stole it from.
The time to freeze the oligarchs' money is when they're trying to get it out of Russia. They have to "launder" it somehow. That was the whole point of the Magnitsky sanctions.
