Have always enjoyed your remarks on DU, we think a lot alike.

(22,470 posts)#2: The second amendment was included for arguable reasons. One was to allow expansion by killing objecting Indian tribes and secondly, so militias hunting escaped slaves could better intimidate or kill them. I've not heard of instances of early Americans carrying around pistols or muskets and shooting over a.difference of opinion...tarring and feathering seems to have been the retaliation of choice and that looks pretty barbaric through modern eyes. I doubt it would pasd muster in a court today. Giving Americans a license to kill hardly seems like a valid reason nowadays.

(6,150 posts)Yes, we had to fight to gain our freedom, and yes, the founding fathers had a strong belief in God.
But the God and guns BS is just that, BS.
Show me where any of our founding fathers equated belief in God with carrying guns. There was a separation of church and state built into the Constitution to protect against such moronic ideas. As Jesus said, "Render unto Ceasar the things that are Ceasar's, and to God the things that are God's".
And, I do like America, with God, but without all those guns.

(7,533 posts)Some of the original thirteen colonies were founded partly as refuge from religious persecution. All of them were founded primarily for profit.
The reason those colonies rebelled and formed a new nation was taxes...not religion and not guns.

Because he sounds like he got his education from the "history" and "civic" lessons that charter school in Tennessee use, that you posted about earlier.
