I had wondered if it was just Putin's love of sports, and desire to see the focus on Russian's Olympic medals that delayed the invasion.
He wasn't expecting the negative backlash on Russia for the doping incident with the 15 year old figure skater. Or the increased backlash based on her coaches' verbal abuse when she later flubbed her routine.
I hope that the skater - Kamila Valieva - is doing OK back in Russia.
