There's rumors Putin is considering imposing martial law in Russia

This is Mikhail Podolyak, who is an adviser to President Zelenskyy.

On March 4, both chambers of the Russian parliament will convene for an emergency extraordinary session. As I understand it, the preventive imposition of martial law in Russia is on the agenda.

While I don't doubt Putin will do so at some point, so soon in seems a bit shocking if this is factual.

The economy is severely and irreversibly damaged short and long term. Mass unemployment, currency devaluation, insane inflation, poverty, bo way to support pensioners, etc. The only way out is to close the country, impose martial law and NK/SU like military dictatorship. You bet all his generals are salivating at the idea.

I agree about his generals salivating over a full military dictatorship. It's their biggest dream come true.

In all seriousness, it won't surprise me if he does impose martial law, or whatever Russia's equivalent is.

He doesn't want mobs protesting in the streets.

But IMHO, he has more to fear from the rich oligarchs who surround him. If they decide to get rid of him he could be gone quickly.

Arrested and then never seen again type of thing.

Putin may have to start killing protestors as a deterrent.

Russians aren't even told there is a war going on. It's called a "special operation" in Ukraine.
For what reason would they impose martial law in Russia?
