It seems to me the country runs, such as it does, in ways that we might see as corrupt, indeed, as we define corrupt.

And I completely disagree with your "of course it is".

(48,996 posts)OP just finished saying this is a discussion board. I answered the OP's question.
You couldn't be bothered.

(67,790 posts)And to that point, consider: Posting to DU, and similar boards, left and right is largely a waste of time.
It's all kind of echo chamber entertainment.
Anyway, see ya around campus. Maybe at the malt shoppe?

(48,996 posts)I learn lots and lots of stuff on DU and from reading other "boards". Like this: https://www.democraticunderground.com/100216413169
I thought you were serious. I'm sorry I mistook your entertainment for a serious attempt at commentary.
My error.

It's a discussion board. There'll be nothing to discuss if people like the OP just keep their thoughts to themselves, or people like the OP of this thread just clam up and go and use Google:

(9,088 posts)Republican lawmakers are funded by insurance companies? No. It is just the way it is, and most people accept it or think it's great. So, is corruption in Russia really corruption. Not officially, and not to those who know no better because of the propaganda has withheld the truth.

(31,981 posts)I have spent a couple months in Russia on two occasions. Of the 43 countries I have spent time in it would be in the bottom half of corrupt countries. Can you find corruption there? Of course. But having grown up in Chicago I did not find it particularly bad in Russia. I was not there doing multi million deals so maybe the corruption is worse at that level. But its worse everywhere at that level.

The difference is we have mechanisms to critique and oppose that corruption. We have rights of freedom of speech/assembly as well as free and fair elections. The Russian people have no such rights or mechanisms to at least keep the corruption in check.
