Russia will need near a million troops to hold Ukraine

Even if Putin is able too oust Zelenskyy and install a pupet, there's no way the people will accept the new Government. The only way to hold is occupation, and to occupy a country with 40 million people you need hundreds of thousands of troops permanently there under constant threat.
The long term affects on their economy will be dire. Will the Russian people tolerate a long quagmire like this?

4. Retired military on CNN pointed out the perspective

They have 60-70K “teeth” actual fighters. The rest are “tail” support. The NYPD is 50K to police, not occupy or clear, the city. There are 3M in Kyiv alone. One of 4 major cities they need to clear and occupy.
