Tx Hispanics attracted to GOP's anti-immigration stance "Democrats want to give everything away"

I'm hoping Beto is ready to counter these opinions

**************************

¿Y nosotros?

And what about us?

“I hear every day that they’re tired — they feel that there is so much attention and help being given to the immigrants,” Ms. Flores said. “The attention’s on all these illegal immigrants, and not on them.”

Grievance politics, it turns out, translates.

------------------------

“Our parents came in a certain way — they came in and worked, they became citizens and didn’t ask for anything,” said Ramiro Gonzalez Jr., a 48-year-old rancher from Raymondville, on the northern edge of the Rio Grande Valley. “We were raised hard-core Democrats, but today Democrats want to give everything away.”

----

“The people coming now seem to be less willing to work and are more dangerous compared to how it used to be,” Mr. Cabrera said. “I’m not saying all of them, but trust me, there’s a lot of people who are crossing this border and they don’t care about this country. They want to just commit crime. They want to just come make money the wrong way. They don’t want the American dream.”

------------

“I’m OK with people coming in saying I’m going to do something productive,” Mr. Cadriel said. “But that wasn’t what was happening. You’d have these people claiming they needed food stamps for their children, but their children were babies, so who do you think was benefiting from it? They were just trying to take advantage.”

The Cadriels equate walking away from the Democratic Party with getting an education, not from college courses or books, but from conservative media and scripture. A retired educator and churchgoing Catholic, Ms. Cadriel, 57, slowly began to feel that her family’s traditional values were under attack. She stopped watching Good Morning America and The View in favor of Fox News.

If your attitude in life is “I got mine, fuck you” then you’re gonna be a Republican.

This guy doesn’t realize that his good, honest, hardworking parents would, at the time they arrived in the country, have been the target of the exact same bigotry that he is now projecting on to others. But they got in, he got his, now fuck anyone else seeking their own better life.

I’m not sure there’s much that can be done about this. Selfish people are Republicans because they’re selfish people.

...always holds a thread of truth.

If Democrats do not understand what is happening, they will be fighting with a blindfold.

RePubeLieCants frame better than we do. We talk real policies. They tell stories.

We need to do both if we are to combat this.

We need to micro target using emotional memes and imagery. We ceded talk radio and it is killing us in rural areas.

We need to get in the game and stop laughing at the other sides tactics.

A minority party now has a majority on the Supreme Court not because they govern better or have better ideas, they understand the game better and they are ruthlessly effective at playing it.

This is front and center of the rights attempt at winning the Latino vote. The same kind of propaganda that's been successful in forming the RW base is being pumped out on the airwaves in Hispanic communities in Spanish.

Democrats have not taken seriously the damage propaganda over (mostly) AM radio has done for the last 30 years. Now we're getting skewered by them in Spanish.

It's about time Democrats got serious about funding/operating/buying broadcast outlets in as many markets as possible. And some of them should be in Spanish.

They sound like right-wingers, regardless of their claims being raised otherwise.

They changed channels because they wanted their already in place prejudices (against the poor, against the non-religious, buying into the hype that they did it all on their own and everyone else is a freeloader) validated.

Hispanics truly wish their white. According to him that they have such a strong desire to be white that they will do whatever it takes to fit in which is taking in conservative ideology. My friend has run into a lot of Hispanic people that are hardcore Trumpers in Texas.

I know many, many conservative Hispanics. I've been saying this here and elsewhere since 2004. They have grown in number and are more reliably RW since I first started talking about it. Even when Trump targeted immigrants from Mexico and other Hispanic countries they never flinched, because they're already citizens and fully assimilated into communities. Communities they don't want changed by new immigrants who aren't their direct family which they know and trust.

They're not progressive by any stretch of the imagination, theirs a a huge pride in a family member in law enforcement or border patrol, many oppose abortion and are deeply involved in their churches. They were ripe for the pickings by the GOP.

We need to seriously address the fact all politics is local, or we're going to die the death of a thousand cuts.
