17. Long before Handmaid's Tale, I was about 12 and read one of her books.

I think it was The Edible Woman. I was a BIG reader and read way beyond my years, but her book was the first I ever read where I though of the character, "Wow. THIS woman is real. Her reactions, her experiences are real. No woman I have ever read before was real."

It transformed my worldview.
