I have Russian American neighbors. They became citizens and then voted for… Trump. This made me furious. Why come here and wreck this country?! I have wondered about their sending money back to Russia for any remaining family members. Can they do that now??! I think I’m less sympathetic now. I had a Latvian American friend who was sure that Russians were coming here to spy on this country. People like my neighbors. I thought she was crazy. Maybe she was right.

I don't know why that made you furious.

Did you accept the fact that Trump won (2016)? Did they accept the fact that Trump lost (2020)?

I accepted Trump's victory, even if it felt like a kick in the gut and an international embarassment for those four years, with the overthrow of one branch of government (supreme court) for generations. Maybe I would have felt better if I stormed the capitol with a coal-burning diesel truck.

However, if you want to support authoritarian government- liked by Trump and Putin, I say, why come here?! We don’t want that. And I don’t want lovers of authoritarianism to move here and vote for that here. In the same way everyone gets a vote, I also get to have an opinion.

And would be considered ethically wrong and supporting the Russian War on Ukraine

I certainly don't want to proceed with that being the inference.

It's just excruciating when your friend is being closed in on all sides and there's nothing you can do.

Aside from criminal issues re: sanctions… I have FAMILY in Russia. I wouldn’t be looking for a way to financially help them under any circumstances right now.
