(16,844 posts)had the power. Times have changed, however. There are a lot of women who are Trump supporters. People like Laura Ingraham and Candace Owens spring to mind. Women who support that asshole regardless of all the misogynistic, racist shit he says. I guess Trump's heart is in the right place. The AG here in Mississippi, Lynn Fitch, is trying to make it illegal for women to have abortions after 15 weeks, before most women know.they're pregnant. She'll have at least one woman on her side on the Court, Amy Barrett. Plenty of women are getting into the game of harming women.

(7,771 posts)...is so ingrained in our myth, religion, and culture that women who want positions of power have a better chance of achieving it if they act like dominant men. Margaret Thatcher comes to mind.
The Christian faith has a foundation of patriarchal symbols and myths, starting with the "sin" of Eve and the "evil" tree of knowledge.
After Hatshepsut left power in Egypt, every mention of her power or glory was chiseled from the monuments at Karnak and other historical sites by her son Thutmose and her grandson Amenhotep II. (I have seen this myself. It is quite remarkable. Talk about cancel culture..."
So these women are just delivering power and control they way they've been taught, by men. It is the Stockholm Syndrome. I'm not even sure they are fully aware of how captured they are.
I have posited for years that if every major office of power in every country, were magically overnight filled with women, no matter their political leanings, religious belief, class, or even educational level, the world would be transformed within 2 generations.
We certainly wouldn't be staring down the barrel of nuclear holocaust.
As an aside, at one point during the pandemic, most of the countries that were managing the crisis well were run by women.

(16,844 posts)I can't help but wonder how different the world would be if run by women. I wonder if the worst sort of women would gain power like the most evil of men do. Granted, they aren't all evil and some go on to do wonderful things.
I've worked for bosses who were men and women. I've seen the best and the worst of both. When a manager sleeps with people he/she is managing, does it matter what sex the manager is? Is it just part of the patriarchal system when a woman manager has sex with an employee? What if the employee is a woman, too?
No matter what sex, there are people who abuse their power; it's just a fact of life. I think it's great to empower women to seek whatever goals they want to achieve. I feel the same way about GLBT. But would things be a whole lot better? I think that would depend on who you asked. There would be a new set of challenges to make everyone satisfied.

(7,771 posts)...up until my mid 40's, that men and women were essentially the same, regardless of gender roles or culturally influenced behavior. Then a sequence of events happened that radically changed my perspective.
Men and women are biochemically different, mainly due to hormones and their effects of behavior. To put it simply, testosterone is a hellava drug,
I think that women, due to the combination of x and y chromosome are wired in a different way. To be simplistic, I think they are better able to handle ambiguity and are fundamentally better at complex, nuanced problem solving. I know that is a gross generalization but I have seen it in my own life and I believe our historical experience validates it.
Men in some ways are very simple beasts. Testosterone informs this simplicity. The real problem is that once you have cut off half of the human population from power, the faults of male dominance compound to the point of systemic failure.
That is what we are seeing now. This is the denouement of male dominance bringing us to the brink of nuclear annihilation and ecological collapse.
Kicking ass is getting it's ass kicked...

(16,844 posts)It is a"helluva drug." A lot of young men can't handle it, so they sometimes require interventions, like how they used to let them serve in the military rather than serve their sentence. They did that to my uncle and he was sent off to Vietnam. He certainly didn't come back better from that experience. Found more drugs to try.
But worst of our societal ills are caused by testosterone, or at least an overdose of it. Maybe one day we'll be able to control how it is administered. Food for thought.

That's a hell of a political ad: "Vote for me, or we're all gonna die in the fiery hell of nuclear annihilation". Christ.

(7,841 posts)after watching that Lincoln Project video it occurred to me the only thing missing in Trump's attempted power grab were the military parades...a show of might...and then I remembered his plans for 4th of July that had to be scrapped because of covid...a military parade on Pennsylvania Avenue, and Trump in the stands observing "his generals"...
