I don't think Trump knew all the military plans, but I do believe that he understood Putin's urgency. And he knew it was vital for him to be president for a second term. Which is why Trump could not accept a defeat in the 2020 election. That was his motivation for supporting and encouraging some of the craziest right-wing Federalist society convoluted legal reasoning.
That's why the crazies were allowed to bubble up to the surface from their bottom-feeder roles in our society. They were Trump's best hope to force himself on us. Just like they move a ball forward during a scrum in rugby. You push your way through.
And a little Russian money didn't hurt to keep them on task.
Things to think about:
1) We knew that Putin was going to target Ukraine as early as January 18. We can confirm it was early because China asked Putin to wait until after the Olympics, and they claimed it was the USA that tipped them off.
2) And now that we're here today, what is Russia's long-term goal once he gets access to the Black Sea?

I was just thinking about that today. I wonder if Trump destroyed the translator's notes or were they perhaps in the boxes taken from Mar-a-lago?

(12,904 posts)They targeted Ukraine long before January of this particular year. Maybe 2014, 2016.
Long term goals in Russia are really long term.
Metaphorical
(1,603 posts)Problem comes in proving it. I think TFG would have fought the results regardless, though certainly deep Russian money going into donor pockets certainly would explain how Trump was able to mount a challenge of that magnitude.
