(9,243 posts)"domestic purchasing power" is not equivalent to the exchange rate. Wages, food and energy prices are low in the Russian Federation. A lot of stuff is cheap, including real estate and services.

(22,114 posts)Thus far, of approximately 4000+ heroes (and I'm not counting injured Russian vets), this would equal $186 million dollars alone.
I got a bridge in the city of St. Louis MO to sell you if you're interested! Very cheap, and brand new!

(3,557 posts)But $46,000 to the families of killed soldiers doesnt seem like a lot. 20 years ago, when I was in the army, we all automatically had term life insurance policies of $200,000 when we deployed. I think its currently $400,000.

(10,123 posts)is around 678,000 rubles per year.
So the family of the average dead 20 something Russian soldier is getting 7.4 years of wages that is plummeting in value having lost 50% of its value in the last 4-5 years with cost of living about to go through the roof in Russia.
Ukraine is offering 5 million rubles to Russian solders who surrender.
