Young Americans are souring on Joe Biden
Without the threat of Donald Trump, the presidents policies are coming under increasing scrutiny
https://www.economist.com/graphic-detail/2021/12/16/young-americans-are-souring-on-joe-biden
Americas left depends on the support of young people. In 2008 it was they who powered Barack Obamas primary campaign against Hillary Clinton and were critical in securing his landslide win against John McCain. In 2020, Joe Biden repeated his predecessors success with the groupwho were largely motivated by disapproval of his opponent, Donald Trumpand won the White House. The election was so close that every young voter counted. But Mr Bidens failure to impress the young now threatens his presidency.
According to The Economists analysis of polling conducted with YouGov, an online survey firm, an average of 29% of American adults under the age of 30 approve of the job Mr Biden is doing as president. But that compares with 50% who disapprove. The net rating of -21 points is the worst for any age group. Adults aged between 30 and 44 give Mr Biden a -17 rating; those aged 45 to 64 come in at -5; and among adults aged 65 and over, the president is eight points underwater. This is a sharp reversal from the beginning of the year, when young voters gave Mr Biden a net approval rating 32 points higher than older people did. And Mr Biden is falling out of favour fastest with the youngest groups.
Why have the young turned on him? Many told YouGov that their biggest concerns were climate change and health care. Here the president has promised much but so far delivered little. Younger Americans also care more about civil rights and abortionand may be energised by recent Supreme Court rulings on the latter. Others are angry about student-loan debt and Mr Bidens unfulfilled promise to cancel at least $10,000 owed by every borrower.
Whatever the explanation for Mr Bidens sliding popularity with the young, their support for him was much stronger when the alternative was Mr Trump. So their evaluations of the president in isolation are becoming more critical. If this trend persists, the Democrats will face severe challenges in next years mid-term elections. ■

(36,838 posts)Jeffrey Younger of Flower Mound filed to run as a Republican in Texas House District 63 on Nov. 23. He blames a pediatrician for incorrectly diagnosing his child, who goes by Luna, and claims the doctor planned to put him on chemical castration drugs when Luna turns nine.
This is child abuse, as every conservative knows, Younger says on his campaign website. Even the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services considers medical transitioning of children [as] child abuse. But still the [Texas] Legislature hasnt acted. Texas is one of the nations largest providers of sex-change surgeries and chemical castration hormone treatments to children.
Younger accuses the nearby Coppell Independent School District of right now actively teaching his child to be a girl.

Holy shit, Batman. Seriously? So the iron-fisted, bigoted system takes your kids away, accusing you of child abuse (which, no. This: https://www.democraticunderground.com/113756451), and your "solution" is to.... attack other trans kids and their parents? Inflict the same pain upon others as was inflicted upon you? Harm those kids?
In your twisted, fascist, hateful world, the "bad guys" are trans teens and their parents... NOT the bigots running the system?
I've heard of "if you can't beat them, join them", but this is taking it to a ridiculous fucking extreme.
Your "answer" would be like if my response to losing my partner to cancer would be to attack cancer charities and doctors who specialize in treating cancer, because the system failed to save my loved one.
In other words... Let's hurt even MORE parents and trans teens...
You're a sick fuck, Younger. Get some help before you kill someone.

(1,962 posts)It's amazing - and scary - what you learn about people when right-wing extremists are stupid enough to think you can be trusted and add you to a mass-email list or email chain, and spew things there that make you think "What? You want this country to become Nazi America?!" And it's happened to me more than once since shortly after Bill Clinton won in 1992.
I've said for years that the QOP truly wanted Drumpf, but, were willing to hedge their bets. He wins the primary, the QOP hitches their wagon to him. Had he not? "We agree. He is too extreme," and then would've resumed their more subtle forms of bigotry and hate - probably in the form on Cancun Cruz or something.
None of this surprises me, sadly. It sickens me, but, doesn't surprise me. I've seen too much online over the last 30 years, starting with the first major reich-wing tantrum because "How dare a Democrat be elected president?!"
Now after all these years, they don't have ideas. They don't have plans. All that's left is the hate. Or, maybe, that's all there ever was, and they just don't even waste their energy pretending anymore.
