Governor Evers (D) redistricting maps, turning away the Republican scam maps that have been in place for ten years. This is like turning the entire universe upside down in Wisconsin.
I never for a moment thought this would happen. There is a long, extreme, secret effort that occurred 11 years ago to fix in place, in perpetuity, the Republican supremacy in Wisconsin.
Im sure they will try to get this overturned in the U.S. Supreme Court. I dont know how to gauge that, but it is heartening that the skewed maps in Wisconsin are on thin ice. That matters in a state like this not just for Wisconsin but the nation as well.
Wish us luck in the ongoing effort to take our state and nation back to reality. The fight is not over, but this is great news.

(794 posts)Let's not forget that Wisconsin gave us McCarthyism.
from Wikipedia:
"Joseph Raymond McCarthy (November 14, 1908 May 2, 1957) was an American politician and attorney who served as a Republican U.S. Senator from the state of Wisconsin from 1947 until his death in 1957. Beginning in 1950, McCarthy became the most visible public face of a period in the United States in which Cold War tensions fueled fears of widespread communist subversion.[1] He is known for alleging that numerous communists and Soviet spies and sympathizers had infiltrated the United States federal government, universities, film industry, ..."

Replying to @jrrosswrites
Ruling is huge win for Dems.
Using Dave's Redistricting, Evers' maps are:
Congress: 5 GOP districts, 3 Dem; Trump won 6 in Nov '20
Assembly: 55 GOP, 44 Dem; Trump won 62 in '20
Senate: 20 GOP, 13 Dem; Trump won 22

@jrrosswrites
The map GOP lawmakers proposed:
6 Trump congressional seats
64 Trump Assembly seats
22 Trump Senate seats

(504 posts)I'm in Michigan and we're pretty damn similar to Wisconsin IMO. Socially, Politically, etc....what most people around the country don't realize is that we are northern states, along with Minnesota. As northerners we have more fresh water lakes than anywhere in the country and just are very linked together in so many ways. We aren't in the midwest as so many try to say. Indiana, Ohio, Illinois and even to some extent Missouri are in the midwest and are similar in many ways as well. Anyway, fanfriggin'tastic news re. our northern neighbor Wisconsin!

(1,752 posts)for the past 10 years. What was turned down was the EVEN MORE EXTREME MAPS that the repubs wanted. Evers map was a compromise. It's still good news, just not the turning upside down of the entire universe that you (and I) wouldve preferred.

(16,685 posts)The Republican map would have made it worse. Although the 1st actually becomes more competitive on this map but still leans Republican.

Even though this may not be as huge a victory as described in the o.p., it's a step in the right direction.
