He's talked to him several times, and maybe he's afraid Putin is just unhinged enough to try to blow up the entire world. And if that happens, China won't survive the holocaust that a nuclear war would cause.

Xi must also realize that any philosophical connection to Putin inevitably makes China look BAD to the ROTW.

It wanted to partner with Putin and shift world power to autocracies.

But Putin is becoming a liability?

Nuclear war, erratic behavior and terrorizing the world is not good for business.

And it does not convince the world that autocracies are a great form of government.

The lending pause appears to reflect the AIIB’s assertion of itself as a multilateral institution with a global shareholder base, rather than a statement to condemn the war. China’s government founded the bank as an alternative to Western-backed multilateral lenders, such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. China holds about 27% of the voting power in the bank, which has a Chinese president.

“Shrouded in secrecy” gives them a form of “plausible deniability”.

But all this awful shit is playing out “live and in color” on TV, network, cable, and local, 24 hours a day, so there’s almost no way to avoid seeing it. And newspaper front pages and magazine covers too. If you stroll past any newsstand, it’s unavoidable. On every shelf and in multiple languages. All over everywhere. Wide open. And couldn’t have more graphic and indelible messaging on the irresistible contrast differentiating the good guys from the bad guys.

This one’s easy. Very glaring and clear-cut. The BIG BAD Putin aggressors and the targeted victim nation full of sympathetic common-folk figures, the defiant little David versus the big bad muscular meanie,Goliath. We’re all hard-wired from childhood on that story which makes the message perfectly clear about the heroic virtue of the underdog. And an underdog positioning IS GOING TO gain sympathy.

Has China finally woken up to the possibility of a "multiple superpower" world that does not include Russia perhaps?

If the world crushes Russia through economic measures, then it's China, the EU and the U.S. that are left.

One could make a jump and suggest that the two powers that will matter the most will be China and the E.U. while the U.S. will continue to deal with internal issues

(Frankly, If I were China, I would be very happy to watch the U.S. and Russia continually grind each other down over the next generation).

The next resource war will include Africa - and China is already well established there. After climate, this is the next priority.

China seeks to unify public in support for Russia
By ZEN SOO

...

Ruling party control of all Chinese media and intensive internet censorship make it hard to gauge public opinion. But what the party allows online and requires media to publish make clear what it wants the public to think.

Media outlets were told last week to post only pro-Russian content and to censor anti-Russian or pro-Western views, according to a copy of instructions posted on the social media account of the newspaper Beijing News. The post was later deleted.

Online and in social media, expressions of sympathy for Ukraine and support for Russia appear but not criticism of Moscow.

State media repeat Beijing’s position that the United States and its European allies are to blame for the Ukraine war because they failed to respond to Russian concerns that its democratic neighbor should be barred from joining NATO, the Western military alliance.
