(51,611 posts)but I never got my wish. I hope I get to see Putin taken out and ASAP. We could do it but we don't want to start a world war (is that why we don't do it?). Why won't we do it?

BootinUp
(47,165 posts)that normally required time would be greatly shortened. In other words, someone inside doesn't need too much of a push, due to current events.

(21,487 posts)make contact, and get him close enough to someone who sits several yards away from his own advisors in meetings with them?
He definitely needs to be taken out, But it will be tricky and not as fast as we all would like.
I am looking forward to a day of worldwide celebrations when it does happen.

(33,525 posts)Another Russian Revolution is hardly impossible.
In 1917, it involved mutinous troops, war losses in a failing war, and a starving population.
The third point might well be obtained with sanctions, as cruel as starvation is.

The Russians are no longer living under normal conditions.

(59 posts)But when the money drys up, a decision will need to be made for their financial benefit.
Several options occur. Most Russians except Putin agree that Putin is the problem that started the mess. So he must go.
The oligarchs need a functioning, corrupt russia to continue. If the economy is going to crash and nobody is making any money, russia becomes useless to them. Government security is watching them. When the economy crashes so much that security can't function or pay their employees, they will be more than willing to turn on him.
The GRU might take Putin out. This would maintain a structure of government. People could make decisions with Putin dead to stop the fighting.
The world would want Crimea back to Ukraine and Russia to pay damages to Ukraine.
Another option is for the Military to take Putin out. This would pit them against the oligarchs for control. The army would need to be aligned with the GRU and other services in order to maintain control.
And the Ukrainians? The Russian army can give up, surrender or go home. But the Ukrainian army can chase them out of Crimea and regain control.
Will the military and Oligarchs fight for control of the government?
Putin has really screwed things up.

(81,322 posts)Not sure how else this could end. Besides, there's the face-saving thing, which seems to be fading as a viable option. To back down or capitulate in any way would trumpet "WEAKNESS!!!!" around the world. He wouldn't stand for that. And I don't know what anybody'd offer him that he'd take, especially as he seems to be hellbent on eventual European or Eastern European conquest, and accepting no substitutes. NOBODY seems to take seriously that Vlad wants MUCH bigger things, like forced ownership of the European as well as the Asian continents. He's already taken his version of the Sudetenland now. How anyone ever assumed he'd be satisfied with that - is beyond me.
Hitler evidently handled his own - um - "parting shot" - himself. Could that be in the cards for Putin? Or might that be what somebody in his inner circle ultimately does?
soldierant
(6,890 posts)has put a large bounty on Putin, that inner circle might just be how it happens.

I am pissed off, too. I want Putin dead and his head on a pike. But it needs to be done more carefully.
I don't know how, specifically. But we do have military and Intel people who can work it out, I hope.

(16,426 posts)It's not pretty, but it's the truth.
Look at how many people have already died because of him (and I don't just mean in the invasion of Ukraine). He's like a cancer that needs to be excised to preserve someone's life. Excising Putin would help to preserve tens of thousands of lives.

(111,277 posts)while his paranoia and lust for lost empire might be driving this, he's had a hell of a lot of help doing it.
Personally, I'd like to see him tried in the US for saddling us with TFG.
TFG can be sent to Russia to be tried for flattering and enabling Putin.

(20,762 posts)This is the only way that could happen. Unlike Putin's wealthy buddies, these people are likely to see what he is doing to damage Russia.

(51,129 posts)That is why we have war crime tribunals.
hay rick
(7,624 posts)I don't think that is possible here. The best expected outcome for this war is a truce. I don't believe such an agreement would include handing over Putin as a war criminal. If Putin's assassination shortened or ended the war, the assassination would be an act of humanitarianism.
