For the last two weeks, a mom in the Austin area has been vacillating between rage and panic. Some days, she’s so fired up she feels like she could take on the entire state of Texas by herself. Other days, she just crawls under her weighted blanket and lets the fear take over.

The woman, who asked not to be identified to protect her family, has an 8-year-old transgender daughter. In late February, Gov. Greg Abbott directed the state’s child welfare agency to open child abuse investigations into parents that provide gender-affirming care to their children.

This family hasn’t had a visit from Child Protective Services, but they know others who have and they’ve started preparing for the possibility that they could be next.

They’re trying to figure out how to explain all this to their daughter, who they’ve tried their best to keep insulated from the growing anti-trans backlash.

“Sadly, that’s going to change,” she said. “We’re going to have to have a conversation with her about somebody potentially coming to her school and trying to talk to her.”

Call the ACLU. Call Lambda. Call both. The more help and support you can get to fight back, the better. Maybe if Hot Wheels and Paxton find themselves facing thousands of lawsuits, or one massive lawsuit with thousand of plaintiffs, that'll get their attention.

Welcome to my world, Mom. Welcome to the world of LGBTQ's and others being oppressed in the "free-est, most freedom-y nation on Earth!" The shit fucks with you. The moments of manic rage because the adrenaline is cranked up to 17 from fight-or-flight. Then the adrenaline wears off, and you want to crawl into bed and curl up into a ball. Or sob out of a mixture of fear, rage, exhaustion, hurt...

This is no way to live. Not anywhere, but especially not fucking here!

And they know. They all know. Hot Wheels, DeathSentence, all of them. They know this is what this is doing to parents and trans kids. This is the point.

These aren't "leaders." These aren't "tough guys." They're nothing but heartless thugs.

8 years old. Trying to be a kid. Trying to find herself. Trying to make the best life for herself that she can, and be happy. Instead, having to face this shit from your own government. This type of targeted hate.

"Protect children," my ass, Hot Wheels. Here's another one you've hurt. Inflicting pain and misery upon an innocent child to protect your childish mind and ego is not "protecting children." It's harming them.

You want to stop child abuse? Report the ugly fucker that looks back at you in the mirror, Abbott.
