(5,557 posts)For reasons no one can understand, Russia is using off the shelf, unencrypted radios for many units. This has allowed others to listen in, troll, and jam. At one point the Ukrainians were broadcasting pig noises non-stop over several of the frequencies the Russians were trying to use.

(18,663 posts)Of a blue on blue incident. Once on the receiving end and twice outgoing.
Luckily the two time we nearly fired on a friendly unit we identified them at the last second. In one of those we radioed higher HQ who assured us we were the only unit in the area.
I held no grudge against the people who nearly shot me as my unit and I were kind of on the wrong side if the lines

(12,397 posts)an armored unit saw another armored unit carrying out atrocities and decided to put a stop to it.
Unlikely, more like "Friendly Fire" although there's nothing friendly about being fired upon by your own side.
One can dream.

(2,356 posts)I had a lot of family involved in WW2, myself: One uncle in the Navy, PacFleet, another uncle in the Marines, a cousin who was involved with the Murmansk runs (not sure if he was in the Navy or a merchant marine), and my grandfather was a USAAC B-25 pilot. Mad respect for all who served in WW2.

(21,486 posts)that some of the Russian soldiers had gone to the other side. Not likely, I know, but would have been a good switch for Ukraine.

(7,314 posts)I've been following him. Part of the problem is that he is understandably close to this story and really latches on to anything that seems positive.
He is careful to use terms like "reported" and "may." But it's best to be hopeful, rather than certain about unverified tweets.

I am assuming the army either learned its lessons for Gulf War 2, or got better at keeping the incidences secret.
