So everyone was so eager to close the book on the Cold War...

That nobody said anything when the USSR collapsed, "USSR" changed its name to "Russia" in the United Nations, but somehow kept a permanent seat in the UN security council, nobody raised any objections to the idea at the time.

"Reagan won the Cold War" - Once again, a Reagan blunder that had disastrous consequences in the long run. See also: MS13, media-government relations, putting a buffoon in politics, drug policy, and so on.
