(5,725 posts)in which I offered to pay for not-real things with "Icelandic Honeyweeks"--a fictional currency based on a Monty Python skit--just for laughs. I hope I didn't accidentally invent cryptocurrency, but right now it feels good to know that my non-existent Honeyweek is probably more valuable than a Pootie Poot.
(Python was wrong, by the way. Iceland does have honey. And its real currency is the Icelandic Króna, which sadly cashes in at 0.0076USD right now. Wi nøt trei a høliday in Reykjavík this yër?)

(15,810 posts)They inherited an apartment from their parent in Russia fairly recently. The spouse (and friend) live in the US and are both citizens, but the spouse was born in Russia and emigrated years ago.
They've kept the apartment for now - I guess it makes it easier to travel there to see friends. They've been renting the apartment, which means they're being paid in rubles. And they've been able, until recently, to transfer that rent money to their US bank. Of course, they aren't able to do that now, since the clampdown on Russian banks. And would it even be worth it to transfer the rent $? Seems like they're about at pennies, if that.
But they still have the apartment. They're not heading there anytime soon.
Horrible to see what is happening. Most of their family is in Ukraine rather than Russia, so it's really hard for them.
