there has been a major uptick in phishing, spoofing and spamming.

edit: an update from my IT dept.

in brief: the uptick is directly caused by the war in Ukraine.

1. Not surprising. During times of upheaval, I suspect phishers etc. all think that the field is

wide open for them to score some free bucks w/o working for it. Especially w/ emotions running high.

2. our's notified us to update our router firmware due to several exploits...

Some nasty bugs have come up in the past year or so. If you have a router or hw firewall, check the firmware level and update if available.

3. We got a similar email at my employer.

Also, Windows is doing several forced updates per week now.

4. I have noticed the uptick on my personal e-mails, as well.

My ISP is usually really good at intercepting crap, but I have notice weird stuff slipping through, including a receipt from Norton utilities for a renewal for server security that wasn't even addressed to me. I don't even use Norton. I hadn't associated it with war, but now that you mention it...

5. I've had a ton of emails purporting to be from Norton.

I keep flagging them as spam, but they keep coming.

6. I got a notice about suspicious activity with my Chase account, but I don't have

a Chase account. It included a PDF to open (no, I didn't open it.)

7. Additionally port scans on home routers looking for vulnerabilities....

Be sure your Router firmware and antivirus is up to date
