in brief: the uptick is directly caused by the war in Ukraine.

(14,764 posts)Some nasty bugs have come up in the past year or so. If you have a router or hw firewall, check the firmware level and update if available.

(32,086 posts)My ISP is usually really good at intercepting crap, but I have notice weird stuff slipping through, including a receipt from Norton utilities for a renewal for server security that wasn't even addressed to me. I don't even use Norton. I hadn't associated it with war, but now that you mention it...
