that I personally opposed. But I would like my country to be involved in this one. One good war in my lifetime.

(31,828 posts)The baddest ass weapons we have . . . 5 days ago.
I believe - that European militaries have some of the same drone technology that the USA has. If one of them could quickly get it into Zelensky's hands . . .

(22,535 posts)been used effectively. I don't know why we don't hear more about their use.
JustAnotherGen
(31,828 posts)Now I'm really all about - just keep sending them weapons.
If they have the Kabul Drone Strike technology and are missing a key element to use it - lets get them that.

(16,396 posts)In fact the Ukrainians even made a song honoring them:
Ive been watching them kill Russians for a week. Lots of clips out there, though some are very graphic when they include the aftermath of the strikes. Crispy critters.

(16,396 posts)Its packed with independent journalists in Ukraine, many of them English speaking, which has given a pretty good sense of what's going on there. They shoot a lot of video, and mention a lot of cultural things like this video that have come up since it started.

(7,314 posts)It's bullshit. We have a professional, volunteer military force. No one is forced to join.
Chautauquas
(4,442 posts)I'm expressing an opinion. You are in favor of sending young people over to Ukraine, where many of them will likely die. I'm glad Biden is not doing that.
Happy Hoosier
(7,314 posts)Perhaps you can watch the slaughter and feel nothing. I cannot. It will be to our shame if we allow this.
Chautauquas
(4,442 posts)That "perhaps you can watch the slaughter and feel nothing" comment you made. I could counter with 'perhaps you could watch young Americans die horribly and feel nothing', but that would be wrong too, since I know nothing about you.
I am opposed to entering the war in Ukraine. If that pisses you off, too bad.

(7,314 posts)I dunno... maybe I am being too "idealistic," but I can't stand bullies and the idea of allowing a bully to win because of perceived risk to ourselves seems repugnant to me.

(7,314 posts)I opposed the Iraq war. But the reason wasn't because of risk to our soldiers. It was because the war was not justified, and in fact, a terrible global-political decision.

If hes not stopped, he will just keep going.

(17,086 posts)Putin makes a move against NATO and it's on like donkey kong. Right now, based on current Russian performance and depletion of forces, I'd give Moldova even odds against them. They suck.

(7,314 posts)It's not technically a treaty, but we "guaranteed" the security and independence of Ukraine in exchange for them giving up nukes.
So.... yeah... sorry, we ain't gonna do it?
bluedigger
(17,086 posts)It would be pretty ironic if a political agreement intended to provide for nuclear disarmament led to nuclear war. I do like irony.
Happy Hoosier
(7,314 posts)I think that position is dishonorable at the least.
The Ukrainians agreed to it in good faith. And we're saying we didn't pinky swear on it. Gross.

(17,086 posts)In the last century or so, anyways. The problem is they keep replacing them with even worse bums. No idea what we're going to do about that.

(16,396 posts)Loads of weapons like javelins and stingers, humanitarian support and crippling sanctions on Russia that are unprecedented and that have crashed their economy.
Were also monitoring Russian air activity for the Ukrainians via AWACS flying near the border with Ukraine in polish airspace. Were doing quite a lot without the risk of an escalation that could lead to a nuclear exchange.
Im also very confident in our civilian and military leadership to make the right calls.
JustAnotherGen
(31,828 posts)Where we have shared our drone technology with them. I think if Ukraine had access to something of that nature - that convoy could be destroyed. It would deal a severe ugly blow to Putin.
But - like you- I trust our leadership. This ain't the Trump Train we are dealing with here.
NickB79
(19,253 posts)And from all reports, they are of very good quality. They have used them to destroy Russian armor already in combat. Probably not at good as US-made Predators, but good enough against poorly trained Russian troops. And, the Ukrainians have training with them, whereas they'd likely need new training with US drones.
So, just get them more Turkish drones, and keep sending them intelligence data on targets.
JustAnotherGen
(31,828 posts)I think Drones are effective.
BannonsLiver
(16,396 posts)Watching videos from people who analyze weapons and reading stories from places like Reuters and the BBC the Turkish made Bayraktar Drones are good comps to what we have. Apparently its a very well respected weapons system.
My guess is the hesitance to deploy our drones would be for the same reasons we arent bombing their columns with B2s, the risk of a shoot down and Putin figuring out were committing aircraft to the war.
There are few easy answers unfortunately.
JustAnotherGen
(31,828 posts)Will look up the Bayraktar Drones. Thank you.
