but fail to warn anyone? AND some resign without saying a word days before an insurrection. What if the criminals had actually gotten to Pelosi?

The Russian way.
The ancient way.
With all its flaws the United States remains a beacon of hope for the rest of the world. And there are those that purposefully tried to undermine its founding principles for money or power or status. F them all.

The statute proscribes the acts of making false statements, falsifying, concealing or covering up. The statute also covers half-truths if there is a duty to speak the truth. See generally United States v. Lutwak, 195 F.2d 748 (7th Cir. 1948), aff'd, 344 U.S. 604 (1953).
Concealment and cover-up are essentially identical concepts and often result from falsification. These acts need not have any relation to a statement or representation.

(47,124 posts)Distract and divide the US over foolish, stupid issues.
Make US democracy look ridiculous.
Create chaos in democratic nations while Putin plans to rule the world.
The takeover of the US was just a stepping stone to Putin taking control of the West. China will take control of the East.
The GOP is fine with all of this as long as they have permanent power in the US and access to all US assets.

(5,940 posts)I believe that Trump would have claimed it as cause to invoke his powers under the Insurrection Act, which, as I understand it, are almost as great as presidential powers under Martial Law. And I believe he might have then been able to remain in power.

(5,954 posts)The Barr Backstep: in five easy steps.
1. Help a crook to stage a soft coup d'etat.
2. When it becomes obvious that it's not going to succeed, you resign before the attempt is scheduled to take place.
3. Hide in a bunker for six months with a type writer.
4. Pop out of the ground, like a rat from a sewer pipe, with a tell-all book in hand, explaining how you tried to STOP the coup.
5. Go on a reputation-rehabilitation book tour, so that, hopefully, your grandchildren won't have to change their names and move to Argentina.

(14,576 posts)But there are other adjectives we can apply:
Corruption.
Incompetence.
Insurrection.
Malfeasance.
Stupidity.
Whatever word we use, we must admit we have nearly lost our republic, and we still have quite a ways to go to get it back.
