Pence to GOP: Stop 'fighting yesterday's battles'

Former Vice President Mike Pence in a speech Friday night will call on Republicans to move beyond "relitigating" the 2020 election as the GOP hopes to flip both chambers of Congress this November. Pence, in an address to the party's donors, will say Republicans can only win “if we are united around an optimistic vision for the future based on our highest values.”

“We cannot win by fighting yesterday’s battles, or by relitigating the past,” he’ll add, according to prepared remarks. “Republicans can only win by offering real, lasting solutions to the problems Democrats have created for the American people.”

The stance again puts him squarely at odds with former President Trump, who has repeatedly asserted unsubstantiated allegations of voter fraud and irregularities in the 2020 race.

Pence issued his strongest rebuke to Trump last month when he said the idea that he could have overturned the election results was "un-American."

“President Trump is wrong. I had no right to overturn the election,” Pence continued. “The presidency belongs to the American people, and the American people alone. Frankly, there is almost no idea more un-American than the notion that any one person could choose the American president.”

Can GOP still fight those?

On edit: I still struggle to fit Pence and credibility into the same sentence.

The next time I get caught speeding, I'm going to tell the officer, "Well, mistakes may have been made, but I don't think we should dwell on the past. I prefer to look forward."

including that of causing an insurrection in this Country because idiot didn't want to leave the office that he lost. He wanted to overthrow American institutions and such, all for his injured pride. tRump's turn to face consequences will come soon enough, as over 500 have been charged, found guilty, etc.

Republicans have NO VALUES and NO SOLUTIONS to anything.

Republican policies consist of
1. Lowering taxes on wealthy people and corporations, thus shifting the tax burden onto the middle and working class.
2. Gutting social programs designed to help the most vulnerable people in society.
3. Removing regulations that protect people from the environmental damage done by big industry and corporations.
4. Removing civil liberty protections to marginalized and vulnerable groups like LGBTQ people, racial and ethnic minorities, and women.
5. Increase military spending, not to help the men and women who protect this country, but as a give away for defense contractors.

Conservatives have a fundamentally different, and frankly unAmerican vision of the structure of our society. It is Democrats who will often have to come in and clean up the mess made by Republican policies. Just like President Biden has had to respond to the damage Republicans did during COVID-19 in terms of public health and the economy.
