Dana Milbank skewers Barr. "Talk about a Clown Show"

But nobody in the administration did more to enable Trump’s deceptions and assaults on democracy than Barr. He buried the Mueller report while issuing a public summary that misrepresented it; he alleged the Obama administration “spied” on the Trump campaign, and he appointed a prosecutor who is, years later, still trying to prove true Trump’s paranoid fantasy; he scoured the world for evidence to discredit the Trump-Russia probe; his Justice Department gave credibility to Rudy Giuliani’s ravings about the Bidens in Ukraine; he tried to give favorable treatment to Trump cronies Michael Flynn and Roger Stone; he justified the violent assault on peaceful demonstrators in Lafayette Square; he made unfounded allegations against “antifa” and assembled a militia-like force of often-unidentified federal police in D.C. And on, and on.
Now Barr wants to be remembered as the brave figure who spoke truth to power? Talk about a clown show.

That is what Barr expects of us...zero memory of the zillion crimes the fucking moron tried to pull off. Coup, what coup? Impeachment, what impeachment? Second impeachment, don't remember. Mueller Report, never heard of it, etc.

He must think we have the memory of a tsetse fly and no documentation of all of the crimes over 4+ years.

And if trump had won he’d still be throwing protesters in unmarked vans, enabling bogus investigations, and lord knows what else. I still wonder what happened during that late night meeting at Murdoch’s house.

That wing believes that presidents do have unlimited power but their idea of a president is someone like GHW Bush. TheY considered Trump a dangerous oaf.

I think I it is possible Barr may have done some covert work at DOJ thAt protected some secrets or even worked against Trump’s re-election. The Bush faction does not mind an occasional Democratic president for a four year term. They use that time to plan.

The Bush Republicans wanted Trump out.

As are Pence and Pompeo.

Barr and Pence are trying to push trump aside to make room for Pompeo in 2024.

At this late stage of the Trump administration, it’s no longer shocking to see cabinet members and other figures in the president’s inner circle gleefully overturning past expectations and norms meant to govern the orderly operation of power in Washington. But Barr’s case is different—not least because when he was confirmed as attorney general in 2019, even liberal detractors of all things Trump hailed him as a welcome return to something like a reasoned pre-Trump status quo, duly deferential to basic notions of separation of federal power and the canons of constitutional law enforcement long established in court precedent. The question for future historians of the American constitutional order is not so much how the ardent culture warrior William Barr seized a key bastion of federal power; rather, it’s how anyone in Congress or the Washington punditocracy ever mistook him for anything other than what he was.
