with a rundown of the whole sad Trump show when it comes to Ukraine, from hiring the corrupt Paul Manafort, who helped yanukovich, the Putin puppet, steal a Ukrainian election and who's friend, a Russian spy, infiltrated the Trump campaign. Putin didn't attack Ukraine when Yanukovich was forced out because he had a stoop pigeon in the White House who was helping him demolish NATO, which was exactly what he wanted.
Then there was Trump's extortion of Zelenskyy, which I think needs to get a lot more attention now that Zelenskyy is so popular in the US. This is the guy Trump undermined with his shenanigans.

trump is so long ago. President Zelenskyy has to work on getting every world leader to help as much as possible. Something that happened two years ago is not what matters now.
Look at his twitter thread:
https://twitter.com/ZelenskyyUa
Most of it is explaining who in the world is helping and how.
Maybe if Ukraine wins the war he will have time to mention what trump did.
For now it's all about saving his country.

(57,073 posts)I should have said media needs to focus on this. Pres. Z has more than enough on his plate.
Sorry for confusion.

(11,679 posts)I showed this to a not-so-much-Trumper-anymore and the first thing they said was it was a "lie." They kept watching and I think it FINALLY sunk in after seeing Putins' attack on Ukraine. Trump was Putin's tool and my post-Trumper may be becoming an ex-Trumper. Feeling, they were had-I hope!

(9,350 posts)I disagree with Chris Hayes and numerous people on this issue. I think Putin would have invaded Ukraine if Donald Trump has been reelected. War planning takes time. Also, Putin was trying to get this ducks in a row before attacking Ukraine. Putin laid the groundwork for the invasion during Trump's term. Trump weakened both Ukraine and NATO during his time in office. Knowing who Trump is, it is easy to believe, if Trump has been reelected he would have weakened Ukraine even further as punishment for Ukraine not supporting him during the election cycle. Imagine where Ukraine might have been after the first year of Trump's second term. At that point Putin would have invaded Ukraine and likely easily beaten Ukraine. Likely, after the invasion, Republicans would not have put up a fight against Putin because they would have been too scared of Trump as a result of Trump solidifying his control of the Republican Party by winning a second term. That leads to the real reason why Putin did not invade Ukraine while Trump was in office.
The real reason Putin did not invade Ukraine during Trump's term is that Putin needed Trump to win a second term and invading Ukraine during Trump's first term would have guaranteed Trump lost the 2020 election. How would that have happened?
Putin would have invaded Ukraine. Trump would have immediately supported Putin's invasion. The Republican Party being scared of Trump would have at best kept silent, at worst joined in the support. Democrats, eventually lead by Joe Biden, would have stood up for freedom and against Putin and the invasion. The American people seeing the contrast between the Democratic Party and the Republican Party would have supported the Democratic Party. As a result, Trump and the Republican Party would have lost the 2020 election.
Now, you might argue, well that happened anyway. Yes, it did, but invading Ukraine during Trump's term would have guaranteed the result. Not invading gave Trump and the Republican Party a fighting chance to win the election.

(3,726 posts)As long as Trump was around, doing Putin's bidding, weakening and basically walking away from the NATO alliance, which was exactly what Putin wanted, there was no need to invade Ukraine. But once Trump was defeated, and it was clear that his fight against the peaceful transfer of power wasn't going to succeed, Ukraine's desire to join a revived, strong, committed NATO alliance, brought together again by Biden's leadership, became a threat again. So, the rhetoric ramped up and he got his invasion forces together again and since they already had a toe hold in the Crimea and Donbas, he had a place from which to launch.
That's what the evidence and intelligence supports.

(3,726 posts)This just needs to be put all over social media and MSNBC needs to do a whole hour expose on this. It was brilliant.
Congratulations to Chris Hayes, who has made himself one of America's best journalists.

(2,372 posts)...but the pattern of stolen elections and overturned administrations in Ukraine, along with the placement of Manafort in the Trump campaign has gotta make most of us wonder, just how much of the 2016 election did Trump win fairly? I'm not saying he didn't win, but to say he didn't have assistance from Russia is to ignore the patterns in recent history of Ukraine (for one).

(3,726 posts)documented and wrapped up in a package ready for indictment or impeachment, a missed opportunity, though it is still there and available if the DOJ wants to use it.
What effect did it have on the election? Well, they put a lot of money into PAC's and into the Trump campaign and hid a lot of it. They almost over-ran social media. And in the three states where the final electoral margin came down to a matter of just a few thousand votes, they tried to hack the voting machines themselves. Election officials say that didn't happen, but I know in Pennsylvania, where I lived at the time, there were a lot of complaints about machines turning Clinton votes to Trump on the final screens before people pushed the vote button.
Lots of potential Clinton voters who had supported Obama in 2008 and 2012 didn't show up. Suppressed? Social media or robocalls? What was said to discourage them? And were the Russians the source of it?
All three of Trump's campaign managers were politically corrupt and manipulative scum bags, including Manafort, Lewandowski and Conway, who, in the Mueller investigation, had multiple direct contacts with the Russian spy Hayes mentions.

(511 posts)But, how come no mention of That Flushing Guy's pardon of Manafort? I think that would be even more indicative of the connection between him and Pooty. Manafort sets it all up, lies to the FBI, then gets pardoned... seems obvious to me.
