This has a little bit of the Red/Blue map disproportion feel to it. People fight wars, not land.

Russia has a GDP of $1.483T and a population of 144.1M ( per person GDP of $10.3K)
Ukraine has a GDP of $155.6B and a population of 44.1M (per person GDP of $3530)
1/4-1/3 the population ON TOP OF a per capita GDP that is only 1/3... And yet they will fight.
That says more about the fight they're up against -- which they understand better than any of us, but are doing it nonetheless -- than a wonky map.
