I watched a video today about D-day. How could anyone or any country think war is a good idea?

I don’t know what Putin and his buddies think they are going to accomplish. All I can think is he terribly miscalculated, thought he could bully his way to some short term goal, and now he’s willing to tear everything down to save face. I wish someone would come up with a way for him to back down that would allow him to salvage his petty ego. Better that than spiraling into WWIII.

2. I was talking to a friend in the Midwest about this, this afternoon.

I told her, we are at the point where someone has to figure a way out; a way out for Putin that allows him to save face and retain power. That’s one option that all sides should look at - otherwise, if Putin loses he will be a dead man. And a man/woman with nothing to lose - is dangerous to all of us.

So he can come back 10 years later to do it all over again, this time with a better trained military and equipment?
No thanks, he needs to be removed by the military, the Oligarchs or the Russian people, he cannot be allowed to remain in power to do it all over again.

6. Putin has a psychopathy that drives him. He would do the same no matter what the situation.

Mentally ill people don't age well. And it's a fantasy that you can exercise any control on his behavior. He has obviously decided to destroy Ukraine. Is it a proxy war? Maybe, but that again is on Putin. He doesn't have an enemy per se, but his diseased brain creates them. Nothing more dangerous than a psychopath who can't compensate enough to counteract distorted feelings of inadequacy, powerlessness and humiliation. That is what they call decompensation.

11. I can only guess based upon reports of his current behavior.

Apparently he is raging more as he is frustrated. He obviously is paranoid/fearful about contact and vulnerability/risk. He may well have issues like Parkinson's, but dementia also comes to mind. He is 69. Dementia patients are at turns angry, fearful, mentally start associating with a time when they felt secure-rose colored glasses revisionist history. He needs to be removed from power. I think his rage has to do with his inability to compensate, but he is also under stress and the destruction that is external is also him trying to abate that part of his disease that dogs him. I think the sooner we acknowledge publicly exactly what he is, mentally diseased, and unfit to lead, the sooner we can look at what we need to do. If he has dementia in addition to psychopathy his bark will be worse than his bite. But he has had years of being a vicious, murdering, mad dog. Lots of practice.

14. Putin is only 69? He's a spring chicken among politicians these

But that certainly is getting to be a real problem. Some manage to stay sharp but there are lots of age related disfunction. I think we really need to enforce some age limits. They do it for air traffic controllers and I think they do for law enforcement.

Sort of drifting off the subject, but age limits would keep some people out of office. It would be easier than diagnosing them. Look at TFG, he obviously has some dementia. Of course he also has some serious personality disorders. It’s scary to think guys like him have their fingers on the nuclear button.

15. It is scary. We don't have a good way to keep people with significant mental problems out of office.

Saw another video of Gosar last night looking like he in a serious health crisis and needs to resign.

5. Unfortunately the only way for Putin to save face is to put millions of Ukrainian necks under

his boot. The only way he saves face is by annexing a large fraction, if not all, of Ukraine. And then killing everyone who actively defied him, and subjugating the rest.

And as to the first question, that one is pretty easy to answer (for the modern era, anyway) -- because it isn't them or their kids who are doing the dying in the war. All the glory for leading the nation to victory (if you do win), none of the cost.

The people who sell guns and ammo LOVE war.. Lots of money to be made with little repercussions. Look at all the manufacturing giants in Nazi Germany. They got away with little punisment after the war.. Like your Krups coffee grinder? Made huge guns for the Nazi. Porsche made the Tiger tanks. Like your Seimens CT scanner? Made all the electronics on U Boats. Like the power of the M1A1 Abrams tank? Rheinmetal made the big gun on this beast. They also made the dreded 88mm AA and tank gun.. Like your Mitsubishi SUV? they made the A6M ZERO aircraft.. terror of the Pacific. How about Subaru? Their parent company was Nakajima who also made Japanese military aircraft...
All them stinger and javalin missiles we are giving to UKR are gonna have to be replaced..
$$$ Cha Ching $$$ for the military industrial complex..
They have no allegiance to a country, just the money to be made. ☠️
They win, we loose
YMMV
